Upgrading ticket to AP question

I am currently booked for our June trip with the deal that Disney had awhile back where you got a percentage off of the hotel room and a 5 day ticket for the price of a 4 day ticket. My DD is going to be competing at Twirl Mania in Feb 2016, so I am trying to figure out if the it would be better to upgrade to an Annual Pass.

Can I upgrade this ticket? I wasn't sure since it was type of a discounted ticket. I didn't know if they would upgrade it based on what it cost for a 4 day ticket or a 5 day ticket.

You can still upgrade it. You will want to wait until you use it at least once, though. That way, they will apply the price of a five day ticket to your AP cost giving you a greater discount, I believe. If you upgrade it before you use it, they will only apply what you spend on the tickets. I am pretty sure that is what I have read on here before, anyway.

Thank you! I will upgrade it after we use our tickets the first time. I was just concerned with it being a promotional type of ticket if there would be an issue with upgrading it. I was hoping that the worst case scenario would be that I would have to pay the difference from a 4 day ticket to annual pass.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to go about buying tickets myself if we were to plan to upgrade to APs. I'm assuming the biggest $$ off a ticket is, the better it would be to upgrade...if I were to get the best deal on UT, it looks like there's a 4 day park hopper + water parks and more is the biggest savings. If we don't use the water parks before upgrading, will the whole value transfer over to the AP or would the water parks add-on be negated and we'd lose the savings? Hope my question makes sense....

Remember, with a 4 day ticket, you will only be able to make advance FP+ reservations for 4 days.
(The upgrade works if that 1st trip has 4 park days and your additional trips are 60+ days after you upgrade in the park.... But there are fewer ideal scenarios for an upgrade than before)

1. I'm assuming the biggest $$ off a ticket is, the better it would be to upgrade...if I were to get the best deal on UT, it looks like there's a 4 day park hopper + water parks and more is the biggest savings.

2. If we don't use the water parks before upgrading, will the whole value transfer over to the AP

3. or would the water parks add-on be negated and we'd lose the savings?

1. Yes (as long as that ticket's full gate value is not MORE than the cost of a new AP.)

2. Yes.

3. No.

I'm not terribly concerned about losing out on the (most likely) 1 extra day of FP+ we'd be going, so that's ok. What do you mean by 60+ days after we upgrade? we couldn't use the AP until 2 months after?

1. Meaning that there is no down-side (to making advance FP+ reservations) to upgrading if your NEXT trip is over 60 days from the date that you do the upgrade.

2. Under no conditions would that be true.

(As in your proposed Feb. 2015 trip.)

we're actually going in April (I'm not actually the OP of this thread, was just adding on my own questions) :) I was just confused by the 60 day thing. What was that a reference to? fast passes?

You can cretainly use the AP for the next 365 days ;)
But you would not have a valid ticket in MDE to make additional FP+ reservations until after you upgrade to that AP.
So, if you were planning a Feb trip and a March trip, you would not be able to make FP+ reservations 60 days out for that March trip.

Yes, advanced fast passes. You wouldn't have the on-site 60 day window if you also booked a May trip. If your 2nd trip is July or later it's a non-issue.

How long does it usually take to upgrade to an Annual Pass at the park gate? We have a Star Wars breakfast at Sci-Fi at 8:00 and then want to hop over to the MK so my DD will make her BBB appt at 11:50. Is that doable?

I've read of 10 minutes and 1hour. Mine have been in the 10 minute range.

Thanks. I hope I am closer to the 10 minute mark than the 1 hour. We were hoping to squeeze in at least one ride at HS before hopping over to the MK.
