Tried to save money, what a mistake, We have been put in the worst possible room on the first deck, We board on April 10. can we still call and get an upgrade or do we have to wait untill we board the ship.
Any help would be appreciated. How much will it cost??

SSG,

First of all welcome to the DIS boards. If the date you posted is correct and you are on the Magic Easter cruise, welcome again from a fellow cruiser.

Anyway, the first question I have for you is do you have your Documents yet. If you do, It will cost to change your doc's now.

I would try to get to the port at the earliest time (10:30AM) and see if you can get an upgrade. There is plenty of availablity on this cruise. Most cat's 4,5,6,8,9,10,12 are available. Upgrades do not cost the amount that is quoted on the disneycruise site but much less and depends on the cat you are in, what cat you want to upgrade to and what you paid for the ressie you have now.

Secondly, there is a link on the cruise meet board for our cruise. There is also a wealth of information available on two web sites hosted by fellow Dis board members. They are www.castawayclub.com and www.dcltribute.com.

Hope this helps,

kennyk

If we can answer any other questions pls feel free to ask.

Sorry KennyK, but I have to disagree! (as far as switching the stateroom now, anyhow :D )

SSG, It sounds like you are very unhappy with your location, however if you search the boards and read some posts, you'll soon realize that all the rooms on the ship have some great benefits. Deck 1 is EXTREMELY convenient for getting off when in port and it is also a quick trip up to deck 3 and 4, where the majority of the action takes place.

However, if you are still unhappy with your location, contact Disney or your travel agent NOW - do not wait - like KennyK said, there are still plenty of rooms in other categories available. You can change your stateroom without havin to pay the charge to change your docs. I did this 3 weeks before I cruised last summer. they will just have you cross out the old number on the bag tags and write the new one on them. You will pay the current difference in price. Good luck!!!!

We stayed on deck 1 and really liked it. You are very close for getting off the ship and when you are coming in from a long day in port you are happy you don't have to get on an elevator or climb the stairs. You're right there.

Also, since there are so few rooms on that floor, there is very little traffic. No kids running up and down the halls, no noisy people trying to find their rooms late at night.

We had one rough night at sea on the way to Castaway Cay. You could really feel the ship moving but it would have been a lot worse if we had been on the upper decks.

I liked the two portholes, too. I have two kids and they really enjoyed having one to themselves.

When we docked at Port Canaveral on the last day, we were able to see dolphins out our porthole.

Enjoy!

Changing staterooms or categories does not require the reissuing of docs.

What I would do if I were you is call to see if you can switch staterooms. Other than that, you can always inquire about an upgrade at port. I've done this before and have paid minimal for upgrades. BUT, if you're on the Easter cruise your chances of switching staterooms or upgrading are minimal since it may be a sold out cruise. Doesn't hurt to ask, though. Good luck!

edited to add:
I just did a search on the April 10th Western for two adults (I'm assuming that's the cruise you're on) and they're showing Categories 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, & 12. Remember that the cost to upgrade at this time will probably drastically increase your price but it doesn't look sold out so you may luck out with an inexpensive upgrade at port. To be safe, though I'd call ASAP to switch your room in case you can't upgrade at port.

We also have stayed on deck 1 and I told my DW that when we go in Sept I would do deck one again, but she had already got anothe deck

Mickeyboat is right it is very quiet on deck 1 since there is limited number of cabins

The convience factor for getting on and off the boat to me is the best thing about deck 1

I have always said that any stateroom on a Disney ship is better than any day at home, LOL! I would even consider sleeping in a lifeboat or on a deck lounge, hehehe! Good luck!!

SSG - welcome to the DIS boards and like KennyK said we have a thread going for our cruise on the cruise meets board. I have put together a list of fellow DIS cruisers and we have several meets planned. It would be great if you would join us on the thread.
