Upgrading PHP to AP

Does anyone know if you are able to upgrade an unused PHP voucher for an AP?

I know you can exchange your unused days on a PHP toward the cost of an AP, but I'm wondering if you can do this with an unused PHP voucher. My aunt received 2 vouchers for 5-day PHP's in exchange for her timeshare points from RCI. If she redeems her vouchers at Guest Services and receives the 5-day passes, is there any reason she shouldn't be able to then upgrade this to an AP?

Does anyone have any experience doing this? TIA

Under normal circumstances, upgrading a PHP to AP is a transaction that is done all the time. But you have the extenuating circumstance of the tickets (vouchers in your case) were not purchased.

Some tickets that are awarded to a person for free are considered complimentary tickets which carry no dollar value towards upgrading. They will get you the stated park admissions but are not upgradeable. Other times, the tickets will carry a dollar value, usually much lower than the gate value of the ticket since it will be a wholesale price.

The only way you will know whether you can do what you ask is to go to Guest Relations and they will tell you the value of the voucher.

Thank you for your reply.. I was afraid she would have to wait until she got to Guest Services before getting a definite answer. I would think they should be able to upgrade, the tickets weren't really free.. they had to use 50,000 timeshare points to get them- they couldn't make it down there in time for another trip before their points expired.

Maybe I didn't explain it well enough. The question isn't whether they were "free" to your aunt, the real question is whether the tickets were originally bartered or gifted to RCI by Disney. The only way to know this for sure is for a Guest Relations CM to check that voucher/ticket in the ATS database.
