Upgrading park hopper

Know this has been discussed and answered, but I have a bit of a specific question regarding upgrading park hoppers. We have enough airmiles to buy 3 park hoppers. We would like to upgrade to 4 or five days when we get there. Does anyone know what we would pay? Is it just the current gate price of the difference between the 3 day and 5 day, so like about $20 or so?

Thanks!

It's the difference between what you paid and the current gate price. I'm not sure how that works if you use airmiles to purchase them.

So when upgrading do you need to show a receipt or something? How do they know what you paid?

Thanks for the quick answer!

On you original ticket will be printed it's value, they can also look it up using the bar code on your ticket. That's how they figure out the value to apply to the upgrade.

Tickets in packages don't always have a value on them. And even when they do, if they came in a package, the "value" may be less than what is printed on the ticket (this happened once to us.)

So this may not work then. If I pay with airmiles there will not be any cash value so we might end up paying a ton of money to upgrade days.

I guess a call to Disney may be in order.

You need to find out what value Disney applies to the passes you will be getting. It's not a "redeemable" value, but the upgrade value. The other thing is to make sure that they ARE upgradeable. It might give you a value and info in the fine print of the redemption program details.

I just received my 4 free park hoppers from airmiles in the mail this last week...I just had a look at the price printed on them, for 7 day hoppers it said $256...not sure how close this is to actual price, but it may help you! Dont you just love airmiles :cool1:

That helps sooo much, thank you. At least now we know that there is a value on them. I think I will still need to call so that there are no surprises to the cost to upgrade. It may work out to be too much though. We were hoping it would be around $20-$30 to add a day or two.

And yes Airmiles are fantastic for things like this. We have been very diligent collecting at Safeway, hitting all the bonus 100 airmiles coupons we can. In fact we just used a coupon today for 300 airmiles for $200 worth of groceries!!! We are hoping to have enough for 3 park hoppers and 3 seaworld tickets!

I purchased our 5 day PH through with a corporate discount. I can't remember if I paid $209 or $219.

When we exchanged our "voucher" for the actual ticket, it had a printed value on the back of $231.

We upgraded to an AP on the last day of our trip paying a difference of $148. :woohoo:

We have been lucky. For almost a year straight our local Safeway has been running a spend 100 get 250, spend 200 get 500..... The airmiles add up fast this way....we have never got 7 day passes, but realized the airmile difference Beteween the 7 and 5 was only 40 airmiles so decided to go with it! Happy shopping and happy planning :thumbsup2

That is great! Now if only our Safewayhere was completive with prices, so it dodnt eat up the budget!! :) But thats a whole other thread!

I know in the past we have gotten Universal passes and upgraded them. It was just a basic ticket and we paid to upgrade to a hopper, it was no different then on their price list.

So I have received replies from my emails from both Disney and airmiles. Airmiles told me that there is a value on the tickets, they buy in bulk so they get a good deal, but the upgrade value should be thaw same as any other park hopper. Disney basically said wait until I get there and ask at the ticket office. Not particularly helpful as we would like to get some idea for our budget. We are going to try and call them, they seem to be very guarded with their email responses.

If you need to estimate, they are probably at the current special price of $199 for a 3 day hopper.

Ok this maybe a stupid question...what are airmiles and how do you get them?

Airmiles are a rewards program from airlines. You earn them when you fly.

Much like you can get points from using credit cards.

Points from grocery shopping or at Sears/Kmart for groceries or gas.

So just to follow up on this thread, we ordered our park hoppers through airmiles last weekend and recieved them on Monday!! We ended up choosing to get the 5 day park hoppers because we thought it would take some guess work out and we had enough miles. So there is a price printed on them $234, so I'm assuming this would be the amount put towards a credit.

We also heard that prices may go up in June, so we thought now would be a good time to order. They are good until jan 2013.

So excited for our trip, and so happy we were able to use airmiles for these!

Thanks for all your help.

Is that $234 for an adult pass, a kids pass, or both?

I see the adult gate price for a 6 day hopper is $271 right now ($251 for kids), so it looks like it would be $37 per ticket to add a day for adults.

Hmmmm, now you have me second guessing myself. The $234 was from memory, don't have the tics in front of me.

But all three are adult tickets.

My wife just told me the ticket price was $246 for the five days. Memory fail.
