Going in one week and my nephew has turned 10 since our last trip. We need to upgrade his old ticket (partially used hopper plus pass/ 3 park days/3 plusses left) to adult tickets. What type of ticket will he get (biometrics or older magnetic strip ticket). Any thoughts or suggestions?

He should do an even no cost exchange of the ticket himself. (Actually for his age now, 10, you should be with him.) The new adult ticket will have the same days and plusses. The new ticket may or may not have biometric finger scan requirements, I am not sure.

There is a severe price penalty to pay for trading up to another kind of ticket because then only the pro-rated dollar value based on the original purchase price is usable. Also, according to current rules (subject to change) a new Magic Your Way style ticket must have the non-expiration option, hopping, and plus pack chosen and paid for since all attributes of the old ticket to the extent possible must be on the new ticket.

Actually he being only ten, he could probably continue to just use the pass as-is this trip.

A common strategy nowadays with old tickets insufficient to do the whole vacation is to lock them in the hotel safe (to keep from accidentally using them) and buy new style 7 or 10 day expiring tickets. The old tickets would be brought out and used only if the new tickets weren't quite enough.

DS used the unused days on his child's park hopper in 2003 just going thru the gate. And it was a ticket from 1989, when he was 6 yo. In 2003, he was a rather "old" 20 yo, but they didn't question him at the gate. A 5'9" "child"?

They will upgrade it to the same type ticket with the same days remaining, only it will be an adult ticket. Don't know if they will require biometrics, but my guess is yes. There will be no charge to change it to the adult equivalent.

Thanks for all your help...I guess we will go to Guest Quarters when we arrive. Actually Tyler will turn 11 in Feb 05, last time we went was shortly before his 9th BD in 2003, so the tickets are about 2 years old. Does he need to take his birth certificate with him?

Happy Birthday to Tyler, and make sure when you go to Guest Relations to get the upgraded ticket to ask for a Birthday button. All of the parks have them at Guest Relations, including Downtown Disney. The ones at Disney MGM and MK are the same, though! :cool1:

No. The dates that the child's ticket was used must make sense to the CM in relation to the child's current age. No other proof is required. Since your child was 9 two years ago when he first used the ticket and will now be 11 two years later, the numbers add up correctly. You will have no problem exchanging that ticket for an adult one at no charge if you really wanted to. You would also have no problem just letting him use up the ticket as is.
