Upgrading MYW tickets to DVC APs

My next 2 WDW visits will be from 11/15/09 to 11/20/09, and again 11/14/10 to 11/21/10. The dates are not flexible due to cruise dates that are pre- WDW in '09 and post-WDW in '10. I had been thinking of getting 10 day no expire hopper tickets, then wondered:

Could I upgrade to a DVC AP on my last day 11/20/09? Would my AP date be the day I upgraded? Can I get the DVC discount if I upgrade? Then my AP would expire 11/20/10, and I could just use our last day on that trip as a resort day.

Will this work? Upgrading to an AP only works I think if I can use our DVC discount. I've never had a WDW AP. I read the sticky on the theme parks board, but couldn't find it addressing upgrading hoppers to a DVC AP.

Sorry, that won't work for the AP. No matter when you upgrade, it will revert back to the first day you used the MYW ticket. So if you arrive on the 15th and don't enter a park, then use the MYW to go to a park on the 16th, your AP, even if you upgrade on the 20th, will expire 11/16/2010.

Your second trip would need to be a week earlier.

What Chuck said. If you do decide to upgrade, you can get the DVC-discounted price, but since your dates are not flexible, one AP would not cover both trips.

Fooey! I've been able to upgrade a multi day ticket at DL to an AP and have the last day be the first day of your AP.
