Upgrading MYW tickets to AP's

We're currently booked with just the standard, one park per day MYW passes for 9 days for our upcoming trip. We're almost certainly going to upgrade to add park-hopping privileges, but we're also considering AP's. If we decide to go with the AP's, it likely will not happen until we're down there. Will we get the full face value of our MYW passes to put towards our AP's? Including the added expense of park-hopping (which we will likely purchase before we go)? I just want to make sure we're not making a financial mistake by not simply going for the AP's ahead of time. Thanks again!

It takes about twelve days in the theme parks with hopping to break even with an annual pass, not counting benefits that go with the AP and not counting advance purdchase discounts only available with regular passes.

For most AP fringe benefits, only one member of the family or party needs to have an AP.

Should you wish to convert to an AP within the first 2 weeks of using the regular pass (or before using the regular apss), you get full value applied, and the AP starts on the first day of the regular pass' use if the latter was already used.
