Upgrading Hopper Passes to MYW passes

I bought 4 day park hoppers in September.....they have never been used. I'm wondering if I could upgrade these to the MYW passes for our trip in December?

I paid $209 for the passes, and a 10 day MYW hopper pass is about $259.....it would only cost me about $50 to upgrade? I've also heard I could get gate prices for the upgrade, which is about $230. Has anyone heard this?

I also have 2 days left on our 5 day park hopper plus passes (the 5 + 4 sold by Ticketmania) Would these be able to be upgraded, also? I paid $257 for these passes; would they credit me about $100 per ticket? It would then only be about $150 for the other passes? Would I lose the plusses left on the passes?

Please, I hope this is true!! Since I anticipate it being so crowded during our trip (12/17-12/27), I was planning on utilizing the EMH's and late magic hours, and being in the parks every day, but for shorter periods, as opposed to our previous trips, where we stayed in the parks all day, and then took off full days (utlizing our hopper passes more efficiently.

Thanks for any info

Julia

We're leaving for our trip in about an hour with 5 day PH that we plan on upgrading to 7 day MYW w/park hopping. We have 5 PHs and we want to buy 6 MYW tickets, so I'm hoping that Disney will just take the amount of money I paid for the 5 PHs and apply that to the 6 MWY tickets. We'll see what happens! I figure the worst that could happen is that we just keep our 5 day PHs and then buy one 5 day MYW ticket. Surprisingly, I'm not stressing about all of this. :)

I thought I was doing good by purchasing one PH ticket each month. When I was getting ready to buy our 6th (and last) ticket, I read about all the MYW changes. I guess maybe sometimes it pays to procrastinate.

In either instance, whether you pay $259 or $230, you can do the upgrade.

Well, yes - you could what you're talking about - but if you asked if the tickets could be upgraded, you'd be told no. In Disney-speak, that's a dollar credit. Ask for a dollar credit on a partially used pass, and they'll take care of it.

However, yes - you would lose the plusses. They carry no value for upgrades and dollar credits.

Does anyone know......on the AllEars site, it says that if you buy a pass from another agency (ie Hotwire, Ticketmania), you are only given the dollar credit of what the wholeseller paid for the ticket.

I think I read (here) that you would be given the gate price as credit (for unused pases) Does anyone know?

I paid $209 for our passes, so Hotwire obviously paid less. The gate price is $233.

Just wondering

For Magic Your Way upgrades, you will be given an upgrade based on what Disney was charging for that ticket. So regardless as to whether or not you got it at Hotwire or Ticketmania.com - you'll get full credit.

Wow, that's awesome!

I'm so glad to know this!

It will only be about $28 for me to upgrade/credit 2 tickets for dh and me, and I have enough misc. park hoppers to cover one kid. I will only have to purchase one adult pass and one child pass for our two other kids for our trip in December (I don't want to lose the plusses on our old hoppers, so have decided not to get credit for them.

My cost for our 9 trip has gone from about $1200, to about $500!!!

Thanks so much for your info, Dan!

"For Magic Your Way upgrades, you will be given an upgrade based on what Disney was charging for that ticket."

In the past, you were given an upgrade based on what Disney was charging for that ticket the year you bought it , not the current gate price. They aren't doing that with MYW upgrades?

Well, there really isn't a current price anymore, because they're no longer being sold. Maybe Disney is doing it for convenience.

I was told that hopper passes that have been used would be prorated at the price they were bought, not gate price. (for example, my 7 day park hoppers were $279, I would only get about $39 per day left on my passes, but my 5 day hoppers cost $257, so I would get a little over $50 per day credit) In other words, you'd get a dollar credit based on the rpice you paid, not the most recent dollar value of the pass.

Dan, do you know if that is true?

I have two adult and one child 5 day hoppers, NEVER USED. I would like to upgrade them to the 7 day MYW w/hopper option only. The hopper passes I have were purchased about one year ago. I believe I paid more for them than a MYW 7 day w/hopper would cost. What would WDW do in this instance?!? Does anyone know?? (I also need to purchase two more adult and more child 7 day MYW w/hoppers!!) Do you really think they would give a credit to use for purchasing the other passes I need? (I hope this makes sense!!)

I haven't seen any information that gets that specific, so I don't know. All the information I've read states that it's based on Disney's gate price.

Wish I could be more helpful! :)

My understanding is that you would lose the difference between what you paid. So, maybe you could purchase a more expensive ticket (like 10 days) and make it no expiration. Or add in the wtaer parks.

Do you really think they would give a credit to use for purchasing the other passes I need?
No, they won't. Each pass you have can be credited to one pass. They won't take the difference and apply it to another pass.

Snacky Stacky, how do you know this? Are you absolutely sure? Because there are contrary opinions being given in other threads. I'm very interested because this will determine whether I upgrade or not.

Thanks, Tromba

The information came from a press release.

Whether or not they've since changed that policy, I'm not sure - but I haven't yet heard anything contrary.

If you need to be absolutely certain, call Disney and find out.

I really wish we would get a first hand account of the full price policy. It def. affects what I will do down there. FWIW, I will post in a couple of weeks, but I know that many of us are eagerly awaiting a final verdict on this one.

I did, and all the CM would say is that I would have to bring my existing tickets to Guest Relations on property and they would tell me how much credit I would get after scanning the ticket.

Doesn't do me a whole lot of good now.
