Upgrading Gold AP when can I make FPs?

I have a Gold AP and have made reservations at WL for December during blackout date. I want to upgrade the pass so I can use it there, but must do so at the park. How does that affect my making FPs at the 60 day mark? Will my linked Gold AP and my WL ressie enable me to make them or will I be without FPs until I upgrade?

You have to have valid ticket media for the days you are at Disney. Since it is during black out dates, you won’t be able to make any advance Fastpasses. Once you upgrade the pass at the parks, you can make fast passes.

One of the downsides of the gold annual pass with black out dates.

You can purchase a multi-day ticket now, link it to your MDX account and book FPs using that valid ticket.

You can use the value of the ticket towards your upgrade or save it to use for a future AP. If you save it for a future trip, as soon as you upgrade your Gold AP, move the regular ticket to a fake name person in your account and it’ll remain safely there until you need it.

Thank you! I should have thought about using that ticket to renew my AP. That is a great idea.

We did exactly that a few years ago - had Gold passes, needed to make FPs for 2 blacked out dates so bought 2-day passes. The only downside was that the CM who sold us our AP renewals fussed at us for applying the cost of the 2-day passes to the renewals. She said she'd do it "this time" but acted as if it were not generally allowed. Of course we knew it was from reading the DIS!

To be clear, you can apply the value of the new ticket towards a renewal or new AP later on, but not towards a mid-year upgrade.

Correct.
I was getting ready to post that same info.
That would be trying to combine the value of more than one ticket to "create" a third ticket
which is not allowed.

Thanks! We always were able to upgrade our SoCal APs at DL using a regular or blockout ticket so I always forget it can’t be done at WDW. Probably not at DL anymore because they’ve done away with SoCal APs.

Does this work differently for booking at the 30 day mark/staying offsite? My kids had Weekday Select Passes that I decided to upgrade to Silver. I was able to book FastPasses (after the 30 day mark) for the weekend/blackout days of our recent trip, and then I just upgraded to Silver when we arrived.

Do you have an AP that doesn’t have block outs? That would have opened the FP window for you and the 2 Select people.

The system opens up the window for a valid ticket even if others aren’t valid. Example: The FP window opens for CM Maingates even if their Guests are blocked out. FPs can be booked for the Guest Passes but it’s of no help because the Guest is forbidden from entering the park.

Interesting! Yes, I have a Gold Pass, so that makes sense then.
