Upgrading from 2-day to 3-day tickets

Hi. My wife and I purchased 2-day tickets for Disneyland/California Adventure back in July. Subsequently, we found out her family would be spending additional time in the area, and we wanted to add a third day to our existing passes.

I contacted Disney by text and by phone asking if we could make this change and pay the difference in cost. We we told the only thing that could be done was for us to purchase the 3-day passes, and then request a refund on the 2-day passes.

While we would be ok doing that, the day that we have booked for California Adventure now no longer has reservations available. As this is a family trip and others have that day at CA booked, we don't want to lose that reso.

Is there a way to either add the third day to our existing tickets, or at least get an assurance that if we purchase the 3-day, that our resos for CA can be transferred to the new tickets?

As far as I know from reading previous threads asking a similar question, the answer is sadly no.

I think you can do this at a ticket booth. I'm sorry I don't know for sure, but here's an article about it. What they mention as the tricky part is that you won't be able to make a park reservation for that 3rd day until the change is made. If you're staying on site, you should be able to get a reservation through the hotel bucket if the others are sold out.

Edited to add a link: https://plandisney.disney.go.com/qu...de your two-day,until your ticket is upgraded.

You can do it at the ticket booths as long as reservations are available for the day you want to add. If you do it on day one, be aware that you will lose all the previously booked reservations and have to make new ones. They do not transfer.

Reservation availability is pretty fluid so it’s possible that day you want might become available once you’re there unless it’s maybe a holiday or some other very busy day.

Also if the day you want that’s not available right now is day one or day two of your trip, you could wait to try to upgrade until after that day.

Question...could the OP go and use the first two days of reservations and THEN upgrade after entering a park that second day if a reservation for the third desired day still exists?

That way they keep their reservations and then leave the third date up to fate I suppose?

Yes as long as it’s done before the end of the second day on the ticket, and as long as reservations are available.

Thanks for all the guidance/suggestions. The day we are trying to add is indeed the third day, but we're worried if we wait until we are there on our 2nd day, we run the risk of Disneyland filling up and we'd end up with nothing. The day we're trying to add is a Friday (Oct. 7) which is the beginning of a holiday weekend, so there is a bit of a concern.

It's a bit frustrating as we're trying to give them more money. And the request to maintain the reservation and move it to the new ticket purchases isn't asking to give us access despite there being no more reservations...just that they move the reservations.

I keep checking the ticket portal online to see if spots for California Adventure are added to the day we want to keep (Oct. 5). If it does, we'd do the purchase-and-refund process the reps suggested. Would anyone know if that happens...of am I just wasting my time by constantly looking?

I don't know what your budget is and I don't know if you want to keep throwing money at Disney, but when I look at the calendar I see that park hopper tickets still list both parks as a starting option on October 5, so if you really want to just stop worrying about the matter you could call back and ask to buy 3-day park hopper tickets and request a refund for the 2-day tickets.

Availability does indeed shift around as people change plans or as Disney adjusts the calendar, so the possibility that your preferred park availability could again open on the 1 park per day tickets before your trip. And, yes, Disney has made this all harder than it has to be for the consumer. I think they don't really care right now because they know that anyone that they irritate or frustrate to the degree that they drive away will quickly be replaced by another willing customer. Only if/when that is no longer the case will we see extra thought and effort go back into these procedures and customer service offerings.
