Upgrading FL Res AP... am I over-complicating this?

I am having trouble finding out where online I can upgrade my Weekday Only FL Res AP to (either) the Silver or Gold AP (not sure which one I'm going with yet). It seems from what I have found below that I have to do it in person (I am on the monthly payment plan). Or - is it saying that I can renew next years pass now and that would allow me to upgrade this year's pass? My AP expires in May

If I have to wait until I get to GS window, then it is what it is, but I sure will be disappointed if I can't make Fastpass reservations for Saturday or Sunday until after I get to a GS window when we arrive for our stay. Does that sound right?

We're taking our daughter and 4 year old grandson next month for a long weekend, and they'll have regular tickets.
thanks

Q.
Can I upgrade my annual pass?

A.
Yes. If you are interested in upgrading your pass more than 60 days before it expires, visit any Walt Disney World theme park ticket window or Guest Relations location and they will walk you through your options.

You can also upgrade when you renew your Passholder status. There are 3 convenient ways to renew:

  1. Renew online
  2. Renew at any Walt Disney World Resort theme park ticket window or Disney Springs Guest Relations location.
  3. Renew over the phone by calling (407) 560-PASS or (407) 560-7277. Guests under 18 years of age must have parent or guardian permission to call.
If you are renewing through the Monthly Payment Program for Florida Residents, phone renewals are not available. However, you can renew online, in person at a theme park ticket window or Guest Relations location.

Though the pass owner does not need to be present for renewal, each pass owner will need to be present at the ticket window to receive his or her pass.

Call and ask.

I have no idea what the heck all that text is trying to say, but here's how it actually works.

Upgrading your pass means you will have the higher level of pass through your CURRENT expiration date. It sounds to me like this is what you want to do. Come see us at a ticket window to do it, you just pay the difference between the one you have and the one you want. It's not pro-rated and we can't roll it into your monthly payments.

Renewing your pass means you'll have whatever level of pass you select during the renewal process starting after your current expiration and going through 1 year from that date. It will not affect the pass you currently have prior to its current expiration, so it wouldn't get you into the park on weekends prior to May.

Yes, I want to Upgrade my pass through it's current expiration. So it sounds like I can't make any fastpass reservations for the Saturday and Sunday of our trip until after I come to the ticket window. The fastpass part is my biggest concern.

thanks

Yep, that's correct. MDX won't allow you to make FP+ for a weekend if your ticket is a Weekday Select AP.

Your alternative possibility - buy a 3-Day Discover Disney ticket online instead of waiting and upgrading on site. The upgrade cost for a Weekday Select to a Silver is about $160 and change with tax (based on current new-pass pricing, anyhow), and the DCR ticket 3-Day base ticket is $169 and change with tax. You're not paying much more, and you can book your FP+ ahead of time.

Of course, if you're going to be park hopping on those days, or you plan to return on other weekends (or during the Easter blockout) during the remainder of your current pass, my new-ticket idea becomes much less cost-effective.

Actually, that could be a perfect solution

Thank you!
