upgrading at resort

We are heading to vero in a ocean view studio using points. We were wondering once we got there if 1 bedrooms were available if we could upgrade. Has anyone done this and can you use points or can you pay cash?

What we did was called ms before we arrived to see if the room was available and booked/changed the reservation through them. This way we used our points and they verified our points balance with us. No errors. I've seen other posts where people have had errors with their points balances after changing rooms so I called ms to check inventory whether using cash/points and went that route.

If you have a room booked using points, you can not use cash to upgrade.

As dvcterry pointed out, it is much better to change through MS in advance of your trip to be certain the transaction is done correctly and that there are no errors with your points. Good luck!

You can upgrade at check-in using ponts, if something is available. But, the resort people are not as familiar with, or do not have full access to, the DVC computer system. More often than not when they mess with reservatons at the resorts, the points used for the original reservaton are put in holding, and points for the new reservation are either from your current use year, or borrowed from the next use year..making a mess for Member Services to straighten out later.

I agree with the others, please call Member Services rather than attempt to change it at the resort. Even if you call them from the lobby.
