Upgrading APs

Hi,

I read on mousesavers that if you upgrade a discounted ticket purchased for DLP (unlike at WDW), DLP will not give you the gate value of the discounted ticket if you upgrade...Is this true?

What about for an AP I bought w/a corporate discount. Will I only get the face value of what I paid? Since they hiked prices in Aug., I might have to pay a pretty huge price difference from my discounted AP (bought before Aug) to current prices. I'd like to upgrade SoCal select for a SoCal regular...TIA :goodvibes

Good question! I don't remember anyone ever asking this.

My best guess is that yes, you'd have to pay the full upgrade price between what you actually paid for your AP (or what your company paid, which might not be the same thing) and what the new one costs.

I know that if someone had paid $99 (or whatever) for their AP in June, and the same AP now cost $149, with an upgrade at $200 (or whatever), they'd still have to pay the difference between $200 and $99.

On the other hand, I'm not familiar with any corporate discounts for APs. So IF by chance your COMPANY happened to pay the difference on your behalf, then whatever they paid may be added in to what you paid for your ticket. In that case, you'd still likely have a pre-August value on your AP, but maybe more than you yourself paid for it.

Thanks for your answer. Boooo....I think I will have to pay the big fat difference...maybe we'll hold off til next year then...

Disney only credits the face value of any ticket/AP towards an upgrade. Whatever is phycially printed on a ticket is what they will credit. If you have turned in your AP ticket and your AP (credit card style with photo) then they will prorate the amount based on the original purchase price AND how many months you have left on it until renewal time.

So you will most likely have to pay the big fat difference unless your company paid full price and sold it to you at a discount.

Disney only credits the face value...

To be specific, Disney*land* credits the face value. Disney*world* credits the full gate value, as long as you've used the ticket already.

OP, you'd probably want to make 100% that AP can be upgraded at all. APs might be different, but often tickets bought at a hefty (as opposed to normal) discount state that they can't be upgraded.

Ok just back. According to the CM at DCA, APs are ugradeable and I have to pay the big fat difference between the discounted purchase price and current gate price. Live & learn I guess, next year we'll just get the better AP to avoid this hassle.

BTW, this upgrade was actually for my parents...and I tried to add parking too to their APs but was told that the AP holder has to be there in person even if I was going to pay for their upgrade.

Just in case anyone was interested....
