Hi,
I have an Platinum plus pass thanks to the special last year. I was told I can tier down to the gold pass when I renew. My question is - can I upgrade my gold pass if I want to later on, or would I not be able to do that?

Yes, you would be able to upgrade the Gold Pass to a higher level at anytime during the year. You would pay the difference between what you paid for the Gold Renewal and the renewal rate in effect at the time of upgrade for the new pass level selected.

Basic rule of thumb with Disney:
If it gives Disney more of your money they will allow it, if you want money back from Disney, they won't allow it (unless returning merchandise of course)

Yes you can upgrade but it must be done onsite and you will not be able to make FP until it is upgraded. So if you buy gold and then decide you want to go Christmas or Easter you will not be able to make advance FP (assuming you don’t have another trip prior to that one). That may not matter you but I think going one of the busiest weeks of the year would suck with no advance FP. I actually experienced this dilemma a couple years ago and decided not to make the quick trip down. Didn’t want to have to pay to upgrade the passes and not get FP I want.

This is another example of why Fast passes should be strictly day of and only about to be booked after first entering one of the parks and even then only one at a time. Basically make it work like Disneyland's MaxPass.

Heck no. The FastPass+ system is the only way I can be sure that I will ride the 2-3 rides that I care about actually getting on. Done the way you suggest we would never get to ride anything since we sleep in. That's the whole reason we have DVC - so we don't have to wake up at 3am!

Done the way I suggest, you would be able to get on pretty much any ride you want. Right now the reason FPs disappear so quickly is a lot of people book then just in case and then never even show up to the parks.

Seriously, at Disneyland, there are only a couple of FPs that disappear by around 2 PM or so. Many attractions have return times that are available for almost immediately use. And there aren't as many attractions with FP as at WDW. Day of only would also reduce stand by times to more manageable levels, as Disney would have to staff the attractions better and run at full capacity because they wouldn't know in advance what rides were going to be busier at what times.

This also would potentially mean more people in queueus and less clogging walkways, etc. At any given time, making the parks feel less crowded.

Having used both systems a lot, the day of system actually greatly reduces wait times and how crowded the parks feel.

At Disneyland, even if I don't show up until Noon, I can still do around 10 attractions by about 5 or 6, including some of the more popular ones like Guardians or Racers.

Abd with Disneyland you can only book one FP at a time, once you use it you can book another. Alternatively you can also book another after a certain time, this usually only comes into play if your return time is more than an hour and a half away, so technically under certain circumstances you can have multiple FPs, but that is rare.

By having these limits in place, it prevents FPs from running out at Park opening and at WDW the chances of them running out for any given attractions would be far less due to how many attractions have FP and the higher capacity that Disney would have to run at, along with the reduced Standby lines at many attractions.
