Is this still possible, or does the ticket being upgraded have to have been bought from Disney?

Also, to do this, I want to buy the ticket with most savings that's still cheaper than the AP, but at a minimum I need the number of days I'll need FP+ or I won't be able to make them 60 days in advance of our onsite resort stay, correct?

1. Yes.
2. Nope.
3. Yup.
4. Correct. You might have to make a minor compromise in ticket choice
to fit the multiple criteria.

We did this with discounted tickets purchased through AAA. Just remember to go through the entrance gate before upgrading. Once you use the ticket once Disney recognizes it as full price and you will just pay the difference of the ticket price to the AP price. If you don't use it once you would then have to pay the difference in the discounted price to the Disney price of the ticket and then the difference to get the AP.

I'm planning on doing this same thing in a couple days and I have a question as well-- we are not staying on property, but if I understand correctly, APs do get the FP+ bands (right?), but it sounds like they can only mail them, not just give them at the park. Do I have this right? I'm new to the whole FP+ craziness and I'm trying to figure it out quickly.

To the OP, make sure that you have a general idea of how much the difference in cost you will have to pay as it seems that not all CMs bridge the tickets correctly and I've been overcharged when I wasn't closely paying attention.

1. APs get MagicBands.
2. Correct.
3. MagicBands are for more than just FP+.
For THIS trip (the trip when you will have a new AP,) you can use
your actual plastic AP CARD for park entry and FP+.
The APs have built-in RFID chips that will activate all of the
Mickey Mouse "touch-point" readers like the MagicBands do.

Thanks everyone! Yes, I know that I have to enter the park and then go to Guest Services first. But is Guest Services inside the park or do I then immediately exit to go to Guest Services? We'll be at HS that day, if it matters.

Guest Relations.

There are Guest Relations both inside and outside all of the parks.
Either can do the deed.

The outside-the-park Guest Relations at DHS is to the far left of the entrance turnstyles. (#9 below)

Perfect..thanks again!

We upgraded a UT ticket last week. We used it first and then upgraded. We were quoted the difference between what we paid and the AP. I told him I thought it should be about $150 cheaper than what he quoted. With no fuss, he then gave me the price I was supposed to pay. Know what you should pay before you go, because I think they are misquoting for whatever reason.

1. Agreed. Always, and for sure!

2. Unlikely an "official" inside effort.
Much more likely a rogue and/or uninformed CM.

I didn't want to start a new thread for my question, so I hope someone will see this!

I just bought a 5 day PH + Waterpark from UT for my trip in Jan. I plan to go at least one more time in 2015 so I think it makes sense to upgrade to an AP. I didn't realize that the waterpark option kind of screws this up.

According to the ticket sticky (which is a year old), you can still upgrade to a regular AP if you don't use any of the WP&More options. Is this true? If I enter MK on my first day, and upgrade before doing anything else, am I eligible for the regular AP? I assume I then lose my WP entitlements, but I can live with that.

If I'm stuck with the Premium Pass, then I don't think an upgrade makes sense. :(

Correct. You're only forced to buy the Premium AP if you have USED the plus options.

Ok I'm back with more questions! I'm so afraid of doing this wrong. :sad2:

1) I bought a 5 day park hopper with WPF&M option - paid $386.14. I will not use any of the WPF&M entitlements, and will upgrade to a regular AP after entering a park. My balance should be $289.07 ($675.21 - $386.14) correct? How do they know what you paid?

2) Will I lose my FP+ reservations or do they transfer over? If they get lost, I wonder if I should wait to upgrade until near the end of the trip.

Thanks again!

What you paid is irrelevant. They should "price bridge" based on the current cost of the ticket you're upgrading from. So the cost of the upgrade should be [today's cost of an AP] - [today's cost of a 5 day hopper + WPF&M]. So for you it should be $675.21-$415.35=$259.86.

ETA: You saved yourself $30 by buying through UT.

Your FP+s will be unaffected by a ticket upgrade.

I swear I knew this. I have no idea why I suddenly thought it was the price I paid *facepalm*

Thank you so much for responding!

This 100% happened to us a couple of weeks ago! So strange. Either way - the CM at Epcot noticed it when I said it seemed a bit high, and fixed it, so it was definitely cheaper!

How do I find the information on bridge pricing?

1. From the "Everything About WDW Tickets" Sticky Thread at the top of this forum.
(Specifically, see post #6 in that thread.)

2. Ask your specific question in a new post on this board.
Make the title of the post specific to your question.
You can get very accurate information that way.
