Okay we are going to bite the bullet and do the 4/7 and use the park passes given to upgrade to a DVC AP. Now.....if I book a 1 day park pass with the package (you have to book at least one day) will it be a better value upgrade wise to do just the one day per person or should I go ahead and get 7 day? It would save me money RIGHT NOW if I just did the package with a one day because it all has to be paid off by Dec. 12th....and that is less money out of pocket now before Christmas. I mean pay now for the 7 day and then pay the difference in the 7 day and AP come Jan. 27th or pay one day now and pay an even bigger difference for upgrade of AP in Jan. I want to get the best value towards that AP. ?????? Thanks

I don't think it will make a big difference overall.

The DVC price for an adult AP (not premium) is $369. If you do the 1-day base only, you'll pay in $75 now per adult, then $294 per adult to upgrade to AP.

If I understand the promotion correctly, if you buy a 4-day pass and Disney gives you 3 free days. On a base ticket (no hopper, etc), that's only an additional $5 in value. (I'm basing this on the advance purchase discount price.) The park hopper option would be a $7 additional value per ticket.

If you do the 4+3 free deal, you pay in $264 now for a ticket valued at $271. You would apply that $271 value and $98 to upgrade to an AP.

In short, I don't think $7 per adult is enough savings to warrant paying for the more expensive tickets up front.

In the past, I've easily applied a 1-day ticket to the cost of my AP.

We went through this same thing. When I initially booked, the CM suggested the 7-day parkhopper - saying that I get the "full" amount towards the AP. So I booked it that way. Then I started thinking the same thing you mentioned - why should I lay out all that money now when I can just pay for it when I get there and just get the one day ticket instead? I crunched the numbers and figured with the 7-day parkhopper I would save around $15 (approximate). I decided to change my reservation and just go with the one-day base tickets instead. The $15 wasn't enough of a savings for me to pay upfront AND I feel a little less nervous about arriving there and being told "No - you can't upgrade this ticket to an AP." I'm sure it won't happen but for a worrier like me, this gives me more piece of mind.
