Upgrading 4/3 tickets to AP - anyone done it lately?

No, I'm not combining them. I just want to be able to use the wp during the first week and want to apply the 1day base to that pass. We will be getting regular AP, not premium as we dont want Disney Quest...

Zgirl:
So how are you able to get that ticket before you officially check in?

Just read this, so I guess you are using both this trip, just for two AP's, one Majors, one Water Parks, and DQ? From what I have read here people have gotten park passes up to 3 days (I believe) early at the parks guest services that are part of a package. I think the reservation has to be in your resorts system for this to be possible, and again it has to be at a parks guest services. Wish I could help more, but someone who has done it should be along soon.

I finally did the math..
It will cost $408 to upgrade all 4 in my family to annual passes.
We have DVC, so we get an extra discount on top.
Woohoo!

I hope this helps.

I am going to book the 4/3 deal and get 7 day non-expire tickets and save $220 on my APs. My DH will be so happy to save the extra.

Ok, Maybe this has already been asked, but I'm a little confused, so any help would be greatly appreciated

We got the 4/3 deal so we paid $286 per ticket. We got PH so we actually paid $336, right?

So if we use our tickets one day before the PH the value is $359. With the PH the value actually is $409, right?

So then we would take the cost of an AP-$409 and get our actual cost of upgrading. Is that correct?

I would also like to know the about it and it looks I already got an answer. Thanks for the info coming here.

Have a nice day everyone. :)

Ok...can someone tell me if I understand this correctly? If I purchase a 4/3 vacation and I upgrade to AP, I need to enter a park on the first day. Later that same day (or should it be on the second day-does it matter?) I go to Guest Services to upgrade to AP. I will have a value of $359.97 for the ticket (the actual gate price not the price I actually paid using the 4/3) and the AP would cost $469. So I would only have to pay $109.03 to upgrade to AP. Do I make sense?:confused3 What would happen if we were there on someone's birthday and we wanted to upgrade would we get another $75 off of the AP upgrade?
Oh, one more question. We normally buy PH tickets. Would we have to pay for the PH upgrade if we upgraded our tickets to AP the first or second day? Thanks in advance for the advice.

OK, I don’t have the thread link in front of me, but it’s the one asking about AP discounts in late June. That thread is way off topic. It has all the math and explanations there in detail.

You can also check out a Disney Ticket page or an explanation on the 4/3 deal for in-depth explanations.

However, in a nutshell, you can do the upgrade anytime after you first used the ticket (to get the discount) until 14 days after you first used the ticket. You will get credit for a PH option if you purchase it, providing you don’t go over the value of the ticket you are upgrading to. APs automatically hop though and the purchase of the PH options isn’t necessary.

Oh I'm so confused I need help please.

I purchased the 4/3 deal. I got a 10day base ticket with my package(it expires 14 days after first use. We want to upgrade to AP. Will it cost me less to upgrade to and AP if I get the 10 day NE ticket instead? Does it matter if I add park hoppers on to the base tickets?
Anyone what to do the math for me?
I need 1 adult and 2 children 3-9
TIA

BTW- Last April we got the park hopper and water parks and more package free and was able to get the price of the free tix after we used them once. We did have to stop at several guest service desk to find someone who knew what we were trying to do.

I am going to do the exact same thing this April. I have the 9 day no expire tickets, we will use them and then upgrade them to AP. Someone else on these boards figured it out and you wind up saving about $105 off of the price of an AP. I still have to add some cash to the upgrade but the end result is still an AP with a $105 price discount.

I believe that the end result was the same for 9 or 10 days, a $105 savings.

I did see on one of the threads that you do get more value, for less cost, by adding the NE, and dropping the PH. I'm going to call in this weekend to do it for our trip next Sat. My math works out for 2 adults, 1 child, after purchasing a 10day NE and upgrading to a AP the total addt'l out of pocket will be about $81 for all 3 AP. Then the second week of our trip I am applying our 1 day base we had to buy toward a WP AP, but hoping to get that ticket early so we can upgrade while on the 1st week of our trip...

Does anyone know if you can take the 1 day base and exchange it for a 1 day water park ticket? We will be upgrading our first week to the AP but did not want the PAP.

I'm so glad I saw this post. We have the 4/3 deal for our trip in April. For the three of us, we originally had 10 MYW PH with the 14 day expiration and planned on upgrading them to annual passes once we got there, since we're going back in Oct. After using them once, the value of the tickets would have been $305 each to use toward the purchase of the annual pass, which is $499. It would have cost $582 to upgrade all three tickets to AP ($499-$305=$194 x 3). I called and asked how much it would cost to change the tickets to 10 day MYW base tickets with no expiration. It cost $191 total for all three tickets to change them. The value of those tickets are now worth $465 each. It would cost $102 total to upgrade those three tickets to AP ($499-$465=$34 x 3). Add that to the $191 it cost to change the tickets on my package and that's $293. That saves me $289 from the $582 it would have cost me to upgrade the 10 MYW PH with 14 day expiration I originally had. Good deal!!! Thank you!

Thanks for your guys input I'm still a little confused. I guess when I look at the ticket prices my head gets all:confused3 .
Can someone do show me the math on 1 adult and 2 kids?
TIA

What tickets will you have that you want to upgrade to APs? How many days are they for?

well right now I have 10 day base tickets for 1 adult and 2 children 3-9
They will expire 14days after the first use. We want the basic AP's
I thought that I may just get the 10 day base NE tix since it seems to be cheaper to upgrade my tickets that way. I just wanted to see the math so When I go to upgrade my tix I will know how much I should be paying.

The only reason why is last yr when we were trying upgrade our tix to AP we had to go to several guest services to we found someone who knew what they were doing.

First you would have to call and find out how much it would cost to change those tickets to non expiring tickets. My price difference was $191 but that was on three adult tickets. The tickets you have right now are worth $252 for the adult and $215 each for the two children's tickets for a total of $682. It would cost an additional $697 to upgrade those tickets to one adult and two children's APs which are $499 for the adult AP and $440 each for the children's APs. Now, if you have the non expiring tickets, those would be worth $465 for the adult ticket and $428 each for the two children's tickets for a total of $1321. It would cost an additional $58 to upgrade those to APs, but you have to add that amount to however much it cost you to change those tickets on your package to find out how much it is costing you in total. I hope I did the math on all of that right. If someone wants to double-check that, please do so, because I'd hate to give out the wrong info.

This is my plan. We (2 parents & 2 teens) are going at the end of May-first week in June and using the 4/3 deal. I booked the package and got 10 day MYW no expiration at an additional cost of $506. To upgrade these to AP it will cost me another $140. Total cost to upgrade ~ $646 or about $161 per person.

We will probably use the AP's for two additional trips. One in the fall and another in the spring. Maybe one in late May again school permitting.

OK, I'm confused! Are you all buying the PH and/or NE tickets now so that WHEN you upgrade to APs it won't require as much cash at that time; or does this actually "save" money in that you get a better discount? :confused3

We have 7-day base tickets included in our 4/3 package and we will be upgrading to AP's (2 new/1 renewal).

TIA! :goodvibes

That is what I am doing. I ran the numbers and you save some extra money if you get the 9 or 10 day NE with the 4/3 package and then upgrade as opposed to getting the 7 day MYW with the package and then upgrading.

Go to the disney website and run the numbers.

Four 7 day MYW tickets give you a base of $971.28. Four AP's cost $1998.04. Total cost to upgrade is $1027. If you look at my previous post my total cost will be $646.

Gosh I hope I am right!!

APs give me an extra reason to plan another WDW trip. Like I need another reason. :lmao: :lmao:
