Upgrading 2021 tickets into 2024 annual pass

Due to covid, I still have annual passes that haven't been activated. We travel annually, 50 weeks apart in order to take advantage of the same annual pass for 2 years. Our next trip is scheduled for end of September 2022. We will activate our passes for that trip, and use it again in September 2023. We are also DVC and have Gold Passes.

I have a bunch of expiring credit card points that have to be used to book travel through Expedia. What I would like to do is...

1) use credit card points to book 10 day tickets through Expedia.

2) upgrade those tickets into annual passes.

3) activate those new annual passes in September 2024.

4) activate current annual passes in September 2022.

Is this possible?

The current AP vouchers being sold to be activated later have a one-year deadline for activation. If not activated as an AP within one year of purchase, the voucher is worth the purchase price and can be applied toward the purchase of another ticket/ AP.

If you're buying tickets to be used later - you might be better off using those points for something more immediate if you are able to get the same value out of them. You can do what you say but you won't be locking in any sort of discount. If you just want to get some tickets to know you have them in the bank - fine to do so but you'll likely be incurring some add'l charge if you're not using them within the year. Not sure which points you're talking about but there are some other options as well which might be more advantageous (such as some points being able to be used to offset purchases at Undercover Tourist which coded as travel on our card we used to do that with once.)

I've got points on 4 different cards, that have to be spent within the next 6 months. Our next trip is almost a year away. Our next trip is already completely paid for. Plus we still have plenty of airline credits plus airline points for the next few trips.

I figure if I put some in the Disney bank now, my hotel, flights, and tickets will be covered until 2026

Any tickets you purchase now — whether regular 10-day hoppers or an AP voucher — will need to be upgraded to 2024 prices before you use them. You can probably get the bulk of ticket expense paid now, but not fully.

I've done that as well sometimes even if not technically the most "optimal" use of points just so I know I have it covered. I've had unactivated silver passes for about two years now that I got basically with points so I know I have a year in the bank! But waiting a bit to see how everything pans out . . .

Your unused vouchers probably have an expiration of 2031. If your trip is less than a year away use the points to buy your next trip's APs since they have 1 year limits now. Then use your older vouchers for the one after that.
