Hello! i been reading about all the lucky people that get upgrades. I am booked on the 9/10/05 cruise. I just was told that it is sold out. Does that mean i have no chance of getting upgraded? Not that i am that lucky anyway it is just nice to dream.

Haven't cruised yet... but from what I have read here there is really no rhyme or reason to who gets upgrades. But, when putting all this info together I have noticed that the people who are given a GTY catagory instead of a cabin number when booking seem to either get or set off some upgrades. Also, last minute bookings would set off upgrading too (if they want and are given the cheaper/lower catagory rooms.
Even if your sailing is "fully booked" there are likely a lot of people who haven't had a cabin assigned yet. As they assign cabins to those GTY's they may start bumping up others who paid more. Is this making any sense to experienced sailors?

Related question...my MIL said that her TA told her to have us call in a couple weeks and every week or so after that until we sail to see if we can get a free upgrade...She said the TA said they will call DCL to see if they can get their client upgraded if there are any to be had...Are there any TA's out there who can attest to this? OR is it a trade secret that if gotten out would overwhelm TAs and DCL?? :smooth:

We booked early January for our cruise next week, were assigned a cabin#6012 (cat 8 on deck 6) that has just the big porthole window and just found out a few days ago that we were upgraded to a cat 4 cabin on deck 8 with a verandah! :cheer2: :cheer2: No rhyme or reason that I can tell, cause we weren't last minute bookers and we had an assigned cabin! I think it's just the luck of the draw. Sorry, wish I could have been more of a help!

I'm thinking it could. After all, it happened to us. Given the fact that we needed connecting rooms and wanted to sail on a date that was nearly full when we booked (only 3 months beforehand), I was happy enough just to get the connecting rooms in category 9. Getting an upgrade never entered my mind. I had called DCL only 3 weeks before we sailed to ask for an earlier dinner time (which we were given) and we still had our original room assignments. No big surprise. It was during check-in we learned of our upgrade to adjoining category 6 rooms. There were no such cabins available when we booked or even when various members of our Cruise Meet thread checked prior to the cruise, so the cancellation or reshuffling that resulted in our upgrade must have been last minute. When we got onboard, there was a sign at guest services that the ship was full. Go figure.

Oh my goodness, I love your pics! You have just SOLD me on a Disney cruise!! When I saw the pic of the WAITER cutting your DD's food up, I was ready to call then and there to arrange for our first cruise! DH laughed and said, "they don't ALL do that...." Man, a vacation where we could actually eat uninterrupted, not stopping every few minutes to cut up somebodies food?! What is THAT??! Does that happen on every cruise? anybody? :teeth:

To answer your question about cutting up your food, on our first cruise, my youngest ds was 5 months old. We had late seating, so needless to say, he was usually asleep half way through dinner, & always in my lap. Our waiters always came by & cut up my food since I only had one arm to eat with. They were great about it! They have always cut up food for my other ds, 9 at this time. I do not know if they all do this, but with this being Disney, I would bet that most of the time they will do anything to make this the most enjoyable vacation ever! :earsboy:
