Upgrades.....?

I don't think anyone really has a great idea but from what I can tell it isn't that often that it happens. We did get one on our 5-1 Eastern as did some other people on that sailing but from what I've gathered here in the last few years they are few and far between. Hubby and I have been on over 15 cruises with and without kids and on other lines besides Disney and this was our first ever complimentary upgrade. I certainly wouldn't count on it and would make sure you book a room you are happy with. Most people on here seem to agree that the people who book the lower categories ie 11, 10 are more likely to get upgraded so that Disney can sell the lower categories and sell out a ship but I don't think anyone ever knows for sure. We had booked 2 connecting cat 8's and got upgraded to 2 connecting cat 4's so I don't know if the lower category theory always applies either.

that is the best advice I can offer, we have done 4 DCL cruises with not even a hint of an upgrade and MANY other lines, we have been bumped on one other but frankly it was not worth what we missed on disney. Their "suite" was not as good as our Cat.6.
Book what you will be happy with and who knows maybe your "number will come up" but it does seem that only the lower cabins get upgraded and only if they need room to sell more lower.

I've cruised DCL 10 times and been upgraded 3...usually from an 11 to an 8 or 9. The chance of being upgraded depends on how the cruise is selling--for summer or school break times, it is nearly non-existent. For September or Feb., your chances are better. Basically, if DCL isn't selling any higher level cabins and wants to be able to continue to offer an "entry level" price even though those cabins are filled, they will offer upgrades to people who booked previously, then re-sell the lower category cabin again. The point is that for DCL, an empty cabin represents a loss....selling it for enough to cover their cost is a good thing.

The bottom line is that you need to book a cabin that you will be happy in. If you need a verandah, book that. If you need a suite, book that. If you get an upgrade, consider it a blessing. However, don't book low and count on an upgrade as it probably won't come.

There was a poll awhile back about upgrades....they were running at about 5% of cruises, but very seasonally dependent.

I'll be going on my 3rd Disney cruise November 4 and got my first upgrade!!! I found out a couple of months ago too.

I went from a Category 8 (window) to a Category 5 (Verandah)

I booked right when I could (January 2003) and I paid it off last September!

I had an assigned cabin so I went from 7014 to 7034

It's just random.
