I was wondering if anyone has ever been upgraded from a studio to a one bedroom with or without asking. Just curious. Thanks.

it's extremely rare if you are a cash paying customer who booked through CRO.

it's even more rare than that if you are staying on pts.

unless there's a serious issue with your room and there's no other option, it won't happen.

It seldom happens! It takes a disaster of some sort, and then they move you right back lickety split!

Previous posters are correct. Unlike regular hotels, DVC resorts cannot be knowingly "overbooked". Hotels know that there will be a certain percentage of cancellations and if not they just assign an upgraded open room to a guest. But DVC is not allowed to do this...that's why the cancellation penalties and restrictions are pretty severe.

So the only time an upgrade should happen is if some rooms are out of commission that they didn't expect. Maybe a maintenance issue cropped up in a villa that wasn't scheduled to be out of commission.

So yes, it's rare. :)

I reserved a 1BR at Hilton Head on Cash last summer (5 days) and when we arrived we were given a 2BR for the same rate. It was a very nice surprise.
