Upgrades/room changes @ Port

Has anyone ever received an upgrade or changed their cabin at the port? It seems that DCL makes all of the changes in advance. Is that so?

When we cruised in January 02 we were upgraded at the port. We went from a category 11 to a category 5. The evening before the cruise I checked on the DCL website and we were still in the category 11 room. It was a huge shock to us when we were told we were upgraded---totally unexpected. Needless to say, we were happy, happy campers.

On our last Halloween Cruise we got an upgrade at the port to a Verandah. And not much money either. Made the cruise even more delightful and romantic
