Since there hasn't been a thread about upgrades for awhile, I thought that I'd start one since I love to hear about them all. Tell about your recent upgrade or pixie dust:)

We have not had an upgrade since 2008, when we got upgraded to SV at AKL on our honeymoon. A magical experience.

I just got back from the Poly! We booked a CL garden view and were suprised to find out we had been upgraded to a CL lagoon view room. We are spoiled for life now!

We were at the BC last week and booked a standard and were upgraded to a water view across from the Boardwalk. A very nice view.

We were at the Contemporary last week and we got upgraded from garden wing deluxe room we had booked to the hospitality suite in the garden wing. The room was awesome and huge! Three bathrooms! We figured out it had more square feet than the finished room in our house (we live in a small 1000 sq house). They also gave us access to club level on the 12th floor, which was so nice too. It was really wonderful...was mine, my children's, and my mom's (in her 70's) first trip to WDW. No idea how/why it happened since they met us at the door and took us up to the 12th floor to check in. It seemed they had upgraded us before we got there.

One time we booked a standard and got cl at the poly and bc. At the dolphin booked a standard and got a resort view of the swan and tot!!! Last trip booked a standard at the akl and got pool view!

In January got upgraded to BWI because of a moldy room at CBR. SO spoiled, gonna be hard to stay at POP in 47 days!!! ;)

How many called asked for an upgrade prior to checking in vs. being surprised once you got there? I read someplace here on the threads that if you call in advance to arrival looking for upgrades and nothing is avail you won't get it. That it is better to ask upon arrival. We are going to pay the extra $ for a perferred room at CBR since I heard it could be a trek just to refill your mug...so not sure what kind of upgrades would even be an option there. I've never stayed on property.....but would loves great surprises!!

The last upgrade I got was in December 2007 at the Polynesian. Had reserved a Garden View - Club Level Room and at check-in I was told they upgraded us to a Lagoon View - Club Level Room.

Love hearing about the extra pixie dust!

Crossing my fingers that something happens when we arrive on our Honeymoon...won't be disappointed however as I know they can't just hand them out like candy.

It is nice to hear of others experiences though.

I would never ask for an upgrade; I find that pretty tacky. I've been upgraded by surprise in the past, though.

We've had 2 upgrades;

Atrium CL TPV to Tower CL VP Suite
AKL Savannah View to CL AV.

Also, we've never asked for an upgrade. That's just tacky. Imo. :)

We got upgraded to the hospitalty suite at CR, too- It was awesome, wasn't it! They named us Family of the Day when we arrived. We did not get access to the Club level, though. But the suite was huge! It was wonderful having the extra bathrooms, so no one had to wait. And the full refrigerator with a real freezer to keep ice in. We had not booked a deluxe room, though. We had booked a standard view garden wing room. With a 40% off code. So we got quite a nice upgrade!

It was awesome! So nice because it was DH, me, my mom and our two children. We were not family of the day but that sounds like fun! Maybe we got club level access because of the time of year? Who knows, but it was nice! Although when we checked in on the 12th floor, they took my daughter over to the balcony doors because they had something they wanted to show her (the castle). She is four. They took her over and were like, "what do you see?!" She said, "the parking lot!" lol! But they really gave us special treatment. No idea why...suspect we just got lucky. :wizard:

Cool! What a nice treat! Did you do online check in?

We did not ask for an upgrade, either they had moved us to SV because they had overbooked the Standard view or the check in lady thought it would be nice to be nice to a couple on their honeymoon. Either way it was a nice gesture from Disney and as we bought into DVC that trip, it was a good for Disney from a marketing point of view.

I would NEVER ask for an upgrade - I've been told that's the surest way NOT to get one!

We have been upgraded three times.

Polynesian 2007 - we booked a gv room and were upgraded to a tpv room.

Beach Club 2008 - our biggest upgrade ever. We gave our whole family (all seven kids, dil, sil, grandchildren and my mom) an all expenses paid trip to Disney. We paid for four GV rooms at BC. Imagine our shock when all four rooms were upgraded to CL! Of course then we fell in love with cl and booked several BC CL trips!

Yacht Club 2008 - We were named family of the day and upgraded from a wv to a cl YC room.
