We are going on a Christmas cruise out of Galveston this year. We are so excited! This will be our sixth DCL cruise. We have never left from Galveston, however. What are the odds of an upgrade at the port? Slim to none? We are happy with our current room, so if it's not possible we are still happy! Where do you do the upgrades at the Galveston port? Has anyone been successful there and at that time? Just trying to decide if I should even consider it or just enjoy as is. Any input is appreciated!

Sailed twice out of Galveston. I haven't tried for an upgrade, but I assume if cabins are available that they would have them in Galveston just like they do at Port Canaveral.

We sailed from Galveston February 2013. Unfortunately, there was a sign posted that "Captain Mickey has announced the ship is sailing full and no upgrades are available." :(

I'd say your chances for an upgrade at port are based on availability on your specific cruise, not the port you cruise from. As with Port Canaveral, early arrival will likely be your best chance for upgrading to Concierge assuming there are any available; if you only want to upgrade from inside to oceanview, those may open up as others upgrade to higher levels. But again it all depends on how full your cruise is.

Enjoy your cruise!

Thank you for all of the responses. I think I caused confusion... I figured I could Upgrade if they are available, but wanted to know if anyone has done it before to know the likelihood of an upgrade on a Christmas cruise. Or is a holiday cruise typically "sold out"? I appreciate the post about the Mickey sign as that will eliminate the guess work. Also, where in the port would I go? I know in Canaveral the guest service counter is marked well and I have upgraded successfully there. Just wanted to know what to look for and if anyone had done it before. Thanks!! In the long run, it's all good...Any room on a Disney ship is a good room!

Depending upon what cruise you are sailing on, there are few or no concierge staterooms showing available on the Galveston sailings. Some are showing Cat 4's, so not sure what you are hoping for.

I have a feeling if you are on the ship on Christmas day, it will be a full sailing as that is a school holiday and those are the ones that tend to fill up.
