Upgraded!

Checked into WL on Friday, November 25. I had my speech all ready to try to get a room in our preferred area. The CM told me we had been upgraded to concierge!!! I just smiled and said "Great! Thank you so much". What an great trip and a wonderful hotel!
 
That's awesome! What type room did you book? I'm just hoping for anything better than a view of the trashcans! :)
 
We booked a woods view at the AAA rate. Our room was facing the MK side and we had a nice view of the castle and space mountain. The view of the castle was somewhat obstructed, but we had a great view of the fireworks from our balcony!
 

So, you are saying you booked a regular woods view (with an AAA rate) and got upgraded to CONCIERGE woods view????? For free??? OMG, I would just be floating on cloud nine if that happened to me! I have always wanted to stay concierge, but I will just not fork over the dough for it. Good for you! Glad you enjoyed it!
 
Wow! How great for you! We probably saw you there but we were just some of the lowly people without the special keys. <g>
 
I wonder if the time of the day that people check impacts the availability of upgrades and especially wonderful jumps to Concierge? Were you arriving late on that the day you checked in?
 
Wow, that's terrific! I recall reading a few posts recently by people who had been upgraded to concierge. I wonder if that is part of a new trend and on what basis the resorts make the upgrades?
 
We checked in around 10 am. The CM told me the resort was totally full and we were being upgraded. I think several factors were in our favor, although I dont know for sure. We were squeezing in a short trip, so the timing was right. We are frequent guests (we were there for Food & Wine in October with free food!), and we are DVC members. Our home resort is VWL.

I am guessing we just got lucky and fit into the slot they were willing to upgrade.

It was a totally wonderful trip! Since we were there a month prior, there was no rush to see everything. We mainly wanted to take advantage of the holiday decorations and shows, so we were able to enjoy some time at the lodge.

There are usually 2 reasons.

One they overbooked the other room category, in this case Woods view and need to move someone, the other reason is they want to have the guest experience concierge and enjoy it and hopefully book it again in the future, sorta like a free test drive. :)

There is no way to predict when this will happen. Certainly if concierge is sold out they can't upgrade you to concierge, so mostly it's like winning the Disney room lottery.

This is AMAZING. I can't even imagine what'd it'd be like to suddenly hear that I'd been put in concierge unexpectedly...wow! I'd feel incredibly blessed and be on cloud nine the whole trip :cloud9: At the Disney resorts, we've only been upgraded once--at AKL from standard to pool view, and I thought THAT was a big deal :teeth: People often mention certain techniques--like trying to be extra-nice at check-in (hmmmm, makes those of us who are genuinely nice at check-in feel kind of pushed on) or that they were upgraded because they were cheerful at check-in (um, ditto--lots of us are nice and don't get upgrades!). Then there are those that get awesome upgrades and then complain about the whole trip thereafter and you wonder, why of all people did they get the upgrade??? Seems like it usually happens before the guests get there and has nothing to do with the approach...

But regardless,
I am so excited for you and so glad that you got to experience concierge there! Isn't it awesome? We tried it once and loved it :wizard:
 
Hello, posting from Beach Club Concierge level right now. I booked under AP best rate program for Standard room, so imagine my surprised to be upgraded to Concierge level when I went to check-in. Our room was not ready yet until early afternoon. But I believed that we were upgraded early (rather than last minute) because the valet guys knew my name as I was pulling in.
Definitely nice to get a surprise upgrade.
