so after several reviews about moderates I decided to upgrade from Pop Century to Port Orleans Riverside for my April trip....I am hoping it is worth the difference in price for our 8 night stay. any thoughts on this resort?

Great choice! But I must say, we were huge Pop Century lovers since it opened... Until 2007 when we stayed at POR for the first time. I fell in love and I am still hooked.. haven't been back to Pop since lol. For the money, it is a wonderful resort with so many beautiful sights, more space in the rooms, queen beds, double sinks and the boat to DTD is nice and relaxing! Oh and the food court at Riverside is our favorite of all the values/mods! Lots of great options and the create your own salad and pasta stations are great!

thank you. this is only our 2nd disney trip we stayed at All Star Movies in November and it was only 5 nights and it was nice. I am looking for "better" for the longer stay and love the idea of the boat to DTD...

We check into POR next week. This will be our third stay there and we love it. It seems quieter than the All Stars, plus it has a hot tub and water slide at the main pool. Also, there is the boat to DTD and Bob Jackson (http://www.yehaabob.com/) Enjoy!

POR is our favorite resort. That being said, POP is pretty good too. If you plan on spending a little down time at the resort, a moderate is worth the money. Pool areas are nicer. There is a hot tub. Great food choices....though I thought POP had good food as well. There are spots to enjoy adult beverages both by the pool and a lounge inside, rather than just the outdoor bar at POP. The boats to/from DTD are a much more enjoyable trip.....no standing on the boats! The rooms are a little bigger.

We've been to POR 3 times and though we stayed at other resorts the last 2 times....once at CBR because POR was not available and once at POP to save money. This year I booked POP because I was thinking $$ but after a GV room became available at POR, I switched and we'll be back for the first time in a while. We're celebrating my twins' 16th birthday on this trip so I wanted to surprise them with going back to the place they liked best.

We've also stayed at the Allstars, at Sports. When the kids were young they loved it. As they got older, they found POR more fun. Sure, no big colorful Disney stuff there, but a bigger pool, slide, more food choices and bigger beds were more important to them. I really think all the food courts are zoo-like in the morning no matter where you are. And the pools, if crowded, are a bit loud.

Both resorts are good in there own ways....but I do think the extra money for POR is worth it.

regards

We have stayed at POR twice. It was our first Moderate after several stays at Value resorts. I remember thinking how serene it was there. The grounds are beautiful. I still look at pictures from those trips and marvel at the beauty of the grounds.....the river, the wooden bridges, the Magnolia trees.

I definitely think it was worth it for the added experience.

That doesn't even take into account the room. You'll have bigger beds, TWO sinks, more room for dancing :dogdance:

POR is by far my favorite moderate resort. You made a great choice! Enjoy your stay, and please come back to let us know what you think! :)

I thought the beds at POR were super comfortable - much more so than POP plus the boat to DTD was lovely. I do agree that the food court is also very good at POR. Enjoy your trip!

Love POR. Our first resort was POR. It's a tough act to follow. Our second resort wasn't even close. The Cabins. We found the beds extremely hard.

Good choice, but beware! The resort upgrade bug hits hard! We started at POP 11 trips ago. Moved up to a mod, tried them all, and eventually deluxe. We were always the "it's just a room we go for the parks" type family. Not anymore, LOL. The Wilderness Lodge has become my favorite resort, bar none. The only depressing part is that we can't stay there every trip due to the increased cost. (Our 12 night trip this year at a mod is $3800 with free dining. The same length of stay at the WL would be $5500-6K depending on the view)!

Anyway, yeah, you made a good choice. Just know you'll probably not want to go back to a value anytime soon!

POR is our favorite moderate resort, and the resort we have stayed at the most. Stayed at Pop once and it was fine but nothing like POR. Besides the atmosphere/decor, POR has nicer pool with some shade, bigger rooms, best food court in terms of choices/quality/quickness, shorter walk to parking/bus stops.

POR was my first resort (it wasn't POR back then, though!) so it holds special place in my heart. The main pool at POR is so much nicer than at Pop and the grounds are just so pretty!

Also, I think the difference to me between a mod and a value is that at a mod, you feel like you are leaving the hectic-ness of the parks and being transported to a quieter, calmer place to relax after a long day. The Values feel like you are staying in the midst of the hectic, crazy, chaos. Which can be fun, definitely. But I like retreating to a relaxing spot at night and POR is SO wonderful in that way!

As I've said before POR is a mod that acts like a deluxe. It's fantastic.

When I saw the thread title I thought "I hope it is POR or POFQ!" I made the mistake a couple of years ago of telling everyone we were going to Pop then surprised them with CSR. That wasn't a popular move.

POR is the ONLY reason my dh has gone along with my yearly longings to go to Disney! We stayed first at POFQ, then POP then ASMux2. After that he said no more  But we did a group trip with his brother as a "one last time" trip and I chose POR . He was hooked pixiedust: Before we even checked out, he had booked us for the following year to celebrate our 10th anniversary as a surprise :love1:. Since then we have tried CSR, and even the Beach Club, but still hold POR as #1. We are headed back this coming May with my sisters' family and absolutely cannot wait.

To us POP (and the Allstars) are very hectic feeling.....not really a break from the hustle and bustle of the parks. POR is so beautiful and serene it gives us the break we need to recharge, but there is tonnes of stuff to do to keep the kids entertained. Old man island is fantastic, The foodcourt is great, in both selection and quality and the boat to dtd is lovely and opens up a convenient way to expand your food choices and add on some fun and shopping. I also love just wandering the grounds, especially in the early morning before a lot of people are up....it is so very beautiful :lovestruc

I hope you have a fantastic trip :goodvibes

Hit Yeehaa Bob while you are there. Make at least one midnight trip to get cheesecake or cherry cobbler at Riverside. Wander over to AB or mansions and wonder at the beauty. Spend some quiet time at a leisure pool. Rocker chairs are located at the main building if you feel like rocking. Hit the arcade with your free points. Walk through the gift shop and I dare you not to buy a new resort gift. If it rains, pull the desk chair out to the walkway and enjoy with an adult beverage. You are on vacation.
