Upgraded? From What To What?

We were upgraded on the Wonder last October from a Cat 7 to a Cat 5. My theory is that we only had 3 people booked in our room, but the room slept 4 & another family needed a room for 4. So they bumped us up a catagory to a room that only slept 3 (no pull down bunk).

I also think it is unlikely to get upgraded if you have the land/sea package, as you are "checked in" at the hotel and part of the "sale" is it being seamless - using your hotel room and going straight onto the boat to use same key in cabin. So doubt they would upgrade your room as you ride in the bus over to the port.

Just some thoughts....

We booked a category 9 for the Magic 9/18/04 and when I called my travel agent with the frantic WHERE ARE MY DOCS phone call last week she told me we had been upgraded to a category 6.

HAPPY DANCE!!!! :Pinkbounc

Does anyone know what the likelyhood of getting an upgrade if booking with points? We actually booked mostly with points and then had to pay cash for one child. I really really don't want to be in a cabin without any windows, however, I really really wanted to see the ship decorated for Christmas. So Christmas won!!! But now I'm hoping and praying for an upgrade. I'd even be willing to pay a small price at port!!

Ah, so there is hope for the land/sea package afterall. Thanks for letting us know. *fingers crossed*

Apparently they don't "key" your KTTWC until you pass it through the "reader" as you enter the gangway entrance. I purchased an upgrade at the port onece & they told me this when I offered to give them back the room cards. They said I didn't need to b/c they would be activated as you enter the ship. So land/sea people don't have to be concerned about this.

I thought all cat 7s sleep 3. That is, you can't find a cat 7 that'll sleep 4.

Am I mistaken?

Thanks,

On our first cruise last September we were upgraded from a Cat. 5 to a Cat. 3. Never got a call - I happened to notice it when I was checking the reservation on the website. We booked at the last minute.... We loved the Cat. 3 - but it spoiled us....

We got a free upgrade at the port on the 9/16/04 Wonder. We went from assigned cat. 11 room 6631 to cat. 9 room 2088. We booked through Dreams about 6 months out.

How was cabin 2088? We are in connecting cabins 2094 and 2096 and I read somewhere that these are "noisy" rooms. What did you think of your location, since your cabin isn't too far from ours.

I'm a little worried, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

2088 was good. 2094 & 2096 are right across from the laundry room. The only time I noticed it busy there was just before dinner... alot of ironing going on.

Thanks. That's what I thought. Well, at least I'll have an easy shot for the ironing board myself. I'll know when it's available. There's always an upside.

I'm not going to worry about. Maybe WE will get an upgrade - you never know!!!

Thanks again.

We were upgraded from a category 11 to 9, but it was because we were orginally booked for the Halloween cruise, and we were told someone ("a large corporation") chartered the ship and we had to choose a different date. Darn it, we really wanted that Halloween party!

This may be a silly question, but why so many upgrades? Do they just do this for happiness? Or like someone else said, to make room for other guests with different family sizes? Just curious. An upgrade would certainly be a pleasant suprise to anyone!

Happy cruising!

Our uprgrade from 11 to 9 was also part of a land/ sea package.

On our 1st cruise in Nov 1998 we booked a category 3 (8102) which is at the rear of the ship and has a very large wrap-round verandah. About 2 weeks before our cruise DCL called to say that this room was a handicap accessible room and that it was needed for a guest with a disability and that we would be upgraded to a category 1 (the Roy Disney Suite) if we agreed to switch. Needless to say we were thrilled but the problem is that once you have stayed in one of these suites you will never be happy in any other category. We went on 2 cruises after the 1st and both were in a category 1 and it is less than 40 days to our 4th cruise which is also in a category 1. Category 1's are great but I am going broke.

"LUCKY & BROKE" CAN'T WAIT TO READ YOU REPORT FOR YOUR UPCOMING CRUISE!!!

We were upgraded from a category 11 to category 8 in January, 2004. We had booked about 5 months in advance, and were informed about 1 month in advance via a telephone call. It was our second Disney Cruise in 12 months (the previous one was a category 7, I think) but I have no idea if that had anything to do with it.
