Upgrade to VA Flying club Silver *Today Only*

I didn't think this was necessarily a scam.
It was a company that offered their members a free upgrade on their Virgin flying accounts. Although it was only for members, non members could still access the upgrade and there account were mistakenly upgraded.
It was mentioned by a few, that the companies involved had found out and would be reverting non members to their previous flying club status.
Just not sure there is a need to panic about it being a scam.


However there is currently the scam going around on facebook about the free gift vouchers. I know Virgin is currently investigating this

If Virgin think its a scam, then surely that's even more reason why they should have informed those afffected? An apology and a warning?

Presumably if it is a scam, it's to collect emails and passwords in the hope of using those details to log into bank acounts etc? gulp!

It's not a scam in that sense, it was a legitimate offer made through a business travel website. It was for members of the Institute Of directors only.

People were trying to scam VA by applying for the upgrade when they were not entitled to do so.

I think in this case 'Scam' was probably the wrong word.

Virgin are investigating as a lot of people who where not entitled to use an offer have tried to use it.

Sorry to resurrect this one, just noticed my account was back to Red then read the posts. No problem going back to red if I wasn't entitled to the offer, but like many of you I am annoyed by the lack of communication. When I first applied and got accepted for the offer I noticed my account number changed, I emailed them querying this, other than an automated holding response I have never received a reply, now I know why! Poor show VA!

Just done all our accounts, not sure it will be much use to us with their prices but done it anyway.

Just to give the heads up this. Our accounts when up to silver after using the link but it was back down to red! Contacted the Flying Club and they told me it was a fraudulent link and Virgin are resetting the accounts to their original state and the link is still being investigated.
Just goes to show there is no such thing as a free lunch!

Other companies offer it as well as I've upgraded mine through work. If you've not had anything in the post I would assume you'll get downgraded at some point as I've had a card and luggage tag in the post to use when you fly with them although it expires before i'll probably use them again.

It was a legitimate link but wasn't made secure to the members it was intended for. Somehow it was wrongly made open to anyone.
They have downgraded anyone who did not use their accounts but some who used their accounts while Silver have not been downgraded(yet) I still have 2 accounts at Silver because I added miles to my accounts while Silver.
On the other side of it they have had complaints from people who genuinely could upgrade, some have been downgraded again when they should still be Silver.
Sometimes these website mistakes come off, sometimes not, had plenty of errors like Business class flights for £450, 4 weeks car rental for price of 1 week etc

Now, I am flying on Saturday with Virgin to Orlando- do you think they'll let me use PE check-in ?

Guess it depends on if you need the card or not. Give it a try and let us know!

Before I was downgraded back to red I contacted VA and asked if a card was needed to use PE check in and they said it was not and that as long as your flying club ID was logged on the flight they would know that you were silver.

I have not used my account recently or had any activity on it, but I too have retained my silver status after using this link. Got my card, luggage tag, etc. in the post this week.

Just checked and I'm still silver too. Got my card ages ago, but thought it may have been an error so checked yesterday. All good though.
