is this true, so do we use a snack credit to do so. On an unrelated note, can we substitute a side for a dessert? For example, at flame tree bbq, I don't like either dessert options, so can I trade that for a side of fries or something? (it's around the same price or cheaper) Thanks!

The technical answer is "no" because the side is not the same category as a dessert. Price probably won't matter. The best answer is "maybe". You'll have to ask at each place you want to do this. The Disney-owned venues are more likely to let you. I know some CS places will let you substitute a piece of fruit or a bag of chips for a dessert.

At CS places my DH usually wanted a large soda, while I was happy with the regular size. I think the CMs are more likely to give you the regular size unless you request the larger. There's no additional charge (e.g. using a snack credit) for upsizing.

just ask for the large drink...we've never been turned down at a CS place on the dining plan credit.

As for substituting sides for dessert: that's a great big NO. There's only a couple subs anyone ever gets: virtually all of the counter service places will allow a bottled water instead of dessert. And some --but not all-- will allow a piece of fruit (like an apple or a banana) My daughter has subbed fresh fruit at a lot of places instead of the packaged dessert (she's an adult) Some places did not have pieces of fresh fruit available, so when she asked if fruit was available for dessert, they offered her the prepackaged fruit from the kids meals...like at Cosmic Rays they gave her the little bag of grapes that come with kids meals...another place it was apple slices, in a little bag. That was fine with her, but those are very small servings. I think the grapes bag was like 8-10 grapeds; the apple slices was like 4 slices. Hubby often subs bottled water for the dessert. But they never allow sides like fries or onion rings for the desserts.

Not all places have Large drinks, but if you request it at the places that do have it, you can get that instead of a regular drink. You do have to request it though :)

As far as substituting a side for a dessert, I don't think that will work.
