Upgrade to Category 3?

In 2000, we were upgraded from a cat. 12 to a cat. 3. First we were upgraded to a stateroom inbetween (I don't remember what cat.), then later we were upgraded to a 3. It was amazing.

You REALLY went from a Cat. 12 to a Cat.3 complimentary??????
That has to be the most amazing upgrade story yet! You are by far the luckiest person I have ever "met".

That is totally amazing CmooreRNSea!! How long before you cruised did this take place??
I would be jumping for joy!!:Pinkbounc

(Are you a nurse?)

WHAT??!! FREE???!!!! REALLY??!!

You are VERY lucky!!! You must have had a HUGE cloud of pixie dust following you around!!! :)

When year was this? A 4-day? 3-day? 7-day?

Yes, it was a jaw-dropping upgrade. Here is what I remember:

I booked our trip through Dreams Unlimited. It was the 7-day Eastern Caribbean, sailing around the second week of September.

There were only two of us - myself and my boyfriend. In 9/99, three of us had gone on the 4-day Wonder, so we were repeat cruisers.

I don't remember when I booked the trip or when we received the upgrades (sorry!).

I received one e-mail from Dreams to let me know they were upgrading us from a cat. 12 to a cat. with a verandah (a 6 I think), including a phone number to call them to confirm. Later, I received another e-mail informing me we were being upgraded to a cat. 3, including a phone number to call to confirm. It was unbelievably beautiful and huge, and the concierge service was fabulous. We could not believe our luck.

I've cruised with DCL three times now, with a fourth cruise booked 9/04, and this was my one and only upgrade. No complaints here!

Yes I'm a nurse. :D

An yes yes yes it was a complementary upgrade! I usually book a cat. 12 because we spend so little time in our stateroom. In 9/04, I have reserved a cat. 10 because we will have three adults so the split bathroom will be helpful. I also figure there is always the possibility of an upgrade, and if not, we're still very happy with our cat. 12.

That is just astonishing! I hope you play the lottery as you are the luckiest person I have ever heard of!

I agree!

It is so nice to hear of these great things happening to repeat cruisers. Good for you!

Now everybody's going to want a category 12! And sorry, you can't have one! There are only 13 Category 12 cabins on the ship, so you have to be somebody special to get one. ;)

A more reasonable plan is to book a category 4. I remember somebody within the last month saying they had been upgraded from a 4 to a 3. Don't hold your breath though.

In January of 2002 DCL had a promotion that if you took a 4-day cruise in January you could take a 3-day cruise in the fall for $99.00 per person - same cat as you booked in January (this was after 9/11 and tourism was way down).

We sailed in January in a Cat-4 - five of us.

We took the 3-day cruise in September. Sometime in August we got a call from Dreams Unlimited informing us that we had received a comp upgrade to Cat-3.

So we did a 3-day cruise in a Cat-3 for a total of $500.00 for the fare. (5 passengers).

It was great.

Week after next we're on a 7-day in a Cat-8...probably not going to get to move up this time.

I continue to be stunned! :)
happy for you all though!
I just can't wait to get on the ship..if there was ever a year I needed a cruise this would be it.. at night I actually try to do "cruise imagedry" to fall asleep and stop the whirlwind going on in my head...

as Aaron

I took the Jan cruise ansd then took by dad back for the $99 fall cruise, we were booked in Cat. 6 but got bumped up to Cat. 4 I booked thru DCL and they called about 10 days before and left a message on my machine.

cat 4 for 2 people $198=priceless $$$

Hey Poopie.......You are from Ventura!! My aunt lives there. She lives on Dorothy Avenue...Do you know where that is? Its so beautiful there! Love that beach but just not that cold water.....brrrrrrrrrrrr

Ok back to the subject.....We were upgraded from a 4 to a cat. 3 for a 3 day cruise a few years ago.......But thanks to bin laden smashing into the twin towers we had to change the dates and was stuck with a cat. 4....it was great any way........just to short! ;)

Yes. I second that! :):wave2:

Would you pay the extra to stay in a category 3? Is the extra $ worth the concierge service/extra space?
