Is it possible to upgrade your ticket to an annual pass? We are considering going back in Sept for our anniv and was wondering if we could just upgrade our tickets?

In addition, how good are the annual pass hotel discounts?

Yes you can. You will get the actual amount you paid for your passes credited to your AP purchase. If you have used days on a hopper then they have a formula that will credit the remaining days, but if you've used a plus feature you can't upgrade except to a premium AP.

AP discounts can be up to 40% of rack rate. Value resorts are around 30%.

I have a 4 day park hopper plus so I cannot upgrade to a regular AP? that stinks!!

Yes you can.

People often get confused on the use of plus options when upgrading. Bobcat's example was correct if and only if you do the upgrade within the first 7 days of use and look to get the full purchase price as a credit towards the upgrade.

After the first 7 days you will not get the full credit for the pass. You will only get the pro-rated amount of the remaining unused days. That credit can be applied to any upgrade including a regular AP.

One thing to take into account when doing this: your unused plus options will carry zero dollar value towards the upgrade and you will lose whatever remains unused when you upgrade the pass. So use up the plusses before you upgrade.

Here's the faqs from www.wdwig.com

How does WDW credit my old passes towards new ones?

Walt Disney World credits are based on what you *paid* for the ticket that you are exchanging. Example: If you have an unused one-day ticket that you paid $20 for then your credit will be $20 towards your ticket purchase.

For multiple days, the credit is based on the number of days of the ticket, the number of unused days and the total original cost of the ticket (though it has never been completely verified it is close to the actual formula of unused days divided by number of days times original cost.) Example: You have a 5 day Park Hopper pass you paid $200 for when you bought it. You have two unused days left on it. You would get a credit of 2/5 of the original purchase price. In this case, it would be $80. Note that Disney does not apply any dollar value to unused Plus options on Park Hopper Plus passes. Only unused major park admissions carry a cash value when upgrading.

Applying the credit from old passes can only be done at a Guest Relations location at one of the major parks or at either of the two Guest Relations offices at Downtown Disney or at Guest Services at your resort.

I have heard that I can upgrade my park hopper pass to an AP or PAP and get full credit for the original purchase price even after I have used a few days admission. Is this true?

Yes it is. If you decide within 7 days of first using a hopper pass that you want to upgrade it to an AP/PAP, you will get full credit for the price of the hopper pass towards the AP/PAP. The AP/PAP will be backdated to the date the hopper pass was first used. But beware: If you get a hopper plus pass and use one of the plus admissions before doing this, you will only be allowed to upgrade to a PAP.

Hope this helps.

It looks like if you are upgrading a hopper to another hopper then they will credit the original price, but as Goldenoldie said you will only get the full price of your hopper to AP if you make the switch within 7 days. Didn't realize that before.

Thanks that clears things up a bit... However I am still bummed because I have the plus option and if we upgraded to AP within 7 days of our hopper activation then we would still have to get the PAP  Can't they just take the addition 20.00 off and let us get an AP instead... geez...

Where do you upgrade passes at? I have an old hopper with one unused day on it and was thinking of getting an AP to get the hotel discount with. Do I have to go to Disney World to do it? Thanks!

Luv2trav you don't have to get the PAP! Only if you use your plus options before you upgrade. Otherwise you can still get the regular AP.

ZachnElli you can only upgrade at guestservices at the parks or downtown disney. You don't have to have the AP to get an AP rate but you will have to have it at check in.
