I purchased 7 day PHP's last month at TDS. We are now thinking
about another trip next year and would like to know
if I can upgrade/exchange these tickets for AP's at The Disney Store before our trip?
Thanks for your help.

To simply upgrade, you would have had to do it during your last visit (within 7 days of first use, I think). You will be able to apply the value of the remaining days on your 7 day PHPs to the cost of APs tho. Check out Deb Wills' analysis on her AllEarsNet.com site. They have the exchange process well-described in there.

Good luck!

Assuming that the tickets are still completely unused, you will be able to get a credit equal to the full price you paid towards APs(one PHP to one AP) . I don't know for sure if TDS will do this for you, but they might - call and ask. I do know you can do it on site once you arrive. Since there are no advance purchase discounts available for AP/PAPs, you won't lose any $$ by waiting until you get to WDW to do the upgrade.

If there are both used and unused days/options on the 7 Day PHPs, you cannot upgrade them (unless it was done within 7 days of the first use), but you could get a credit roughly equal to the purchase price divided by 7, times the number of unused major park days. You would not get any credit at all for unused plus options.

Upgrades/dollar credits are kind of complicated. I always refer to the Ticket FAQ over on AllEarsNet for the specifics. Here's a link to the questions on upgrading/getting credit:

Upgrading WDW TIckets

Best wishes -

I read somewhere that you have to do this before you use any pluses

Ticket upgrading/dollar credits always seemed complicated to me, but it's actually pretty easy.

Think of it this way: UPGRADING means you are given full credit for what was paid for the ticket you're trying to upgrade.

From that base you can sort of work your way down.

1.) You can only get full credit back for unused admission; EXCEPT: You can upgrade used admission within 7 days of the first use of the admission. When upgrading to an annual pass, if you've used any plus options on your pass, you can only upgrade to a premium annual pass.

2.) Notice how I said you're refunded based on what WAS paid? Well, you are given credit based on the amount that DISNEY charged for the ticket. For example - discount ticket brokers buy tickets from Disney in bulk, and get a cheap rate. They then mark the tickets up. You would get credit for what your BROKER paid to DISNEY. Not what YOU paid to your BROKER. Make sense? :)

That should cover bases for the OPs question, but just cause I'm bored....

If you have USED admission, and would like to use it as credit for a new piece of admission media, you then would ask for dollar credits. (Don't ask for an upgrade! They'll tell you it can't be done! :) )

Disney will give you a prorated credit based on 2 things:

a.) How much Disney charged for the ticket (see #2 above)
b.) How many days are remaining

If you have any sort of plus options, they don't have any value in dollar credits.

So let's say you have a 6 day park hopper plus. Let's say you bought it direct from Disney for $240. Let's say you've used 2 days.

$240/6 = $40
$40 X 4 = $160

You would get $160 credit. If you used all three plusses, you'd get $160. If you used NONE of your plusses, you'd get $160.

I think I covered everything! :)

Carol and Dan explained it very well. The only thing I can add is that it definitely cannot be done at a TDS because TDS does not have the capability to scan your ticket and verify that it is unused. The transaction can only be done at a Guest Relations location (parks or DTD) at WDW.

I've talked to the guys at CR about this a few times. They said that it has to be done at Guest Services at a park or DTD. All new PH's tha tare unused are converted over and activated then. If you have days used on one your AP will be back dated to the day you first used the PH. HTH,

But what if the PH is 3 years old?

Thanks for the explanantion Snacky, I will have to remember the dollar credit terminology. Next May my plan is to get a 4 day Parkhopper, use 2 days and then next December use the money from the remaining 2 days towards my AP.

The age of the pass doesn't matter. Disney knows how much they (they = Disney) were paid for that pass. It's encoded onto the mag stripe. And if it's pre-ATS ticketing, then they have a big notebook with the values.

But, since it's from 2001, it's mag strip, so it's all on your ticket. Everything I said earlier about upgrading/dollar crediting still applies.

There is a difference between upgrading and applying the unused dollar credit of a ticket. The scenario you described only applies to upgrading within the first 7 days of use of the ticket. After that, the dollar credit rules come into play and backdating is not done.
