Hi there.

I am planning my first and maybe my second DL trip and have a question!

If I purchase a Buy 3 get 2 free ticket can I upgrade it to an AP? Do I upgrade it from the start or after I use it?

How much credit do I get? Just the 3 days or the 5 days?

Thanks!

You can upgrade it, you get credit for what you paid not the full value. So if you paid for 3 days you'll get 3 days credit towards your AP. You can upgrade at any time after the first day of use and before the last day of use. So if you have a 5 day hopper you can upgrade on day 1 or day 5 but remember if you upgrade on day 1 you will get discounts for your whole stay, and remember if you upgrade before you use your MM you will lose that so my advice is to upgrade after you use the MM but before the end of your trip. :)

Yes, you can upgrade your 5 for 3 day price PH ticket to an AP. You can upgrade to a DAP or PAP. A lot of other DISers would say that you should upgrade your PH ticket to the AP until you use your MM. So you can enjoy a MM day at DL. After you use your MM, than you can upgrade to the AP to get the discounts on the food and merchandise (DAP doesn't have merchandise discount, but they have it right now until Sept 30).

The 5 for 3 day price ticket costs $184 and the DAP costs $329. You pay the difference of the AP and the PH ticket ($329 DAP minus $184 5 for 3 PH ticket equals $145 you have to pay for the DAP) and vice versa for the PAP.

Yes, you can upgrade. You will receive a credit of whatever you paid for the ticket towards your AP price. So you would not get credited the 5-day ticket price but instead whatever the price is for the buy 3, get 2 free ticket. You must upgrade before the end of your last day of use. You may choose to upgrade earlier to take advantage of AP discounts. When making this decision, you should take into account any blockout days (upgrade on or after the last blockout day during your trip if you are not getting the premium pass) and use your magic morning that comes with your parkhopper since APs do not get magic morning. If you are staying onsite, you get magic mornings with any ticket type, so this would not be a factor.

Thanks for the replies! I have a few more questions to add in.

From my work I can get the Buy 3 get 2 free for $169.60 (states regular price is $184)

I can purchase a straight 5 day park hopper for $196 (states reg price of $251)

I can get the DAP for $287.50 (Regular Price $329.00)

If I buy the park hoppers from my work will I get the regular price as credit or the sale price that I am paying at my work?

Thanks!

Someon will need to confirm but this may cause a problem. I'm not sure a special ticket like you would get from work can be upgraded to an annual pass.

I think discounted tickets can usually be upgraded, but Disney codes their tickets so they know what people paid for them. "Comp" tickets like those won in prizes or bought at charity auctions though have no face value. You will most likely only get credited for what you paid, but there are occasional exceptions. I remember reading on another message board about someone who got some tickets from her credit union and received credit for their Disney price rather than the lower credit union price. Other people who have gotten discounts from various sources have reported getting credited only what they actually paid. This might be one of those questions best asked of a Disney CM with a phone call or e-mail so you can get the exact policy for your situation.

If they say you can upgrade while there, you will still have to pay the difference for whatever credit they give you for your hoppers and $329. You will not get that discounted AP price you can buy them for when you upgrade at the park. Does that make sense? If you can get the AP's for that price, I would get them ahead of time and just miss out on MM. Yes, it is a good hour, but still only an hour. For that price difference, you could do a lot with that money - Like a nice character breakfast or dinner at Blue Bayou

When you upgrade your tickets will be coded so they will know what you paid, that's the credit you will get towards your AP. If you can buy the AP in advance at that savings I would do it! You will lose the MM (unless you are on site) but I'd rather save the money over using the MM.

Of course there have been reports of people getting the full credit but it's very rare that this happens at DLR, it's more common at WDW.
