Hi all! My DH and I have booked a package with dining for May so we had to buy the same tickets (got 6-day park hoppers). I would like to upgrade mine to an Annual Pass when I am down at Disney. First, is this possible? I'm hoping it won't mess up our package? Second, what would the price be? Am I correct in thinking it will be the exact difference between an Annual Pass less a 6-day hopper? Does it matter WHEN I do this - I'm guessing it doesn't - but I would need to do it before I use my last day on the hopper?

Thanks! :)

Yes, you can :)

We did something very similar last October - booked the MYW plus dining package, then when we got there, upgraded the hoppers to FL Res Seasonal Passes. You'll have to do the upgrade at Guest Relations at any of the parks - your hotel won't be able to do it.

When I asked before that trip if I could do the upgrade, someone on this board told me "A ticket is a ticket is a ticket". It doesn't matter whether it's coded onto your hotel key or not, and it doesn't matter if you bought it as part of a package or not. You can upgrade any park hoppper ticket to an annual pass.

We did the same thing, only we went to Guest Relations at Downtown Disney. They deduct the price of the hopper from the price of the pass. They give you a certain amount of time after you use the pass to do this but I'm not sure how long. We went ahead and did it on our first night and the pass was dated that day. If you upgrade the ticket after you use it your annual pass will be dated the first day you use the original ticket. Hope that makes sense?!

We did the very same thing. If you use any days on the park ticket, that amount will be deducted from the amount credited to your AP. I would suggest doing it before you step foot into any park otherwise you'll just lose that day's credit.

It only takes a minute or two. As another poster said, any ticket counter at any of the parks can transfer it over.

Caution...having annual pass makes it very difficult to pass up a great airfare or code :rotfl2:

My situation is this, I have booked the special package with dining and 5 day park hoppers with the waterparks, can those tickets be exchanged for Florida residents season passes?? The season pass tickets for 2a 1 child work out to be $660 with tax. The 5 day hopper/waterpark are $560 plus taxes i think, would i pay just the difference??hope it's not too confusing

How does this work with tickets purchased through a broker/discounter? Do they base the amount you are credited towards the AP on the regular price of your current ticket or on the discounted price you paid? I can't remember if the price I actually paid is printed on my tickets or not.

You can do it as long as the price of the hoppers you bought is not *more* than the price of the SPs. We tried to do this for my parents, who had bought hoppers as a package, but they told us that they couldn't refund money on tickets, so they couldn't do it. We even asked if they could just exchange the hoppers for SPs without refunding the difference, and again, no go.

However, since it sounds like the tickets you bought are less than the price of the SPs, you should be fine - just know that you won't have the water parks available on your SPs.

With the "old" hoppers you could only upgrade to reg AP if you had a reg hopper. If your hopper included the H2O parks then you could only upgrade to a premium AP. Make Sense????

I tried to do this last month at the ticket counter of the Beach Club. They would NOT back date our AP's to the first date of use of our hoppers. We had already used 6 days on a 7 day ticket. They were only willing to give us a small credit towards an AP something like 25$ I don't even know hoe they came up with that number. I did not upgrade and looking at the post above.. I should have checked with someone else before accepting this cm's knowledge as fact. We did NOT upgrade to an annual pass... I thought I had read somewhere here that we could do it as long as we had a day left on our hopper. So I suggest upgrading before you enter a park!

:)

So, to get this straight :) I would have to go to Guest Relations at any Disney park and exchange my 6-day ticket for an annual pass BEFORE I use any of my days? Otherwise, I won't get my full ticket price applied towards the pass. Is that correct?

I'm curious about this - I'm wondering if they would only let you upgrade to the FL resident Premium Pass since that is the only one that has the water parks included!? The cost of those is $429.00 adult and $379.00 child. Or will they let you upgrade to a Seasonal Pass and drop the water parks? Now that I think about it, we bought the 3 day play pass with our package that we upgraded to Seasonal passes so I'm not sure how they handle parkhopper ticket.
Come back and let us know when you find out!

Here's the deal:

If you want to upgrade, you must do it within 14 days of the first use of the ticket. You do NOT have to do it before you use the ticket. However, if you do it AFTER you've begun using the ticket, it will be backdated to the date you first used your ticket.

If it has been MORE than 14 days since the first use of the ticket, you will be given a credit for the ticket, and the pass will be active from the day you complete your transaction. This is not an upgrade, but rather receiving a dollar credit - and it does NOT work in your favor. Mom Poppins, it sounds like you were either more than 14 days from the first use of the ticket, or you had an inexperienced cast member. If you KNOW that you're within that 14 day window, and the cast member tells you that you cannot upgrade, ask for a supervisor.

If your ticket has the water parks fun and more option AND you have visited a water park, DisneyQuest, Pleasure Island, or Wide World of Sports, you will only be able to upgrade to a premium annual pass. My understanding is that you do NOT have to get the premium annual pass if you haven't used the option if it's available on your ticket.

Because none of the resorts sell annual passes, yes. You will need to visit Guest Relations at one of the parks, or Downtown Disney in order to completel this transaction.

HTH! :)

Hi Dan.. I was within the 14 days but had an inexperienced cast member perhaps. Here is the latest I called Beach Club to ask about the policy. The stated the samething you did above... the only thing that the CM perhaps did wrong was did not tell me YES it can be done but at the parks. Instead they just told me it could NOT be done. I first visited a park on March 4th. and tried to upgrade the ticket on March 8th. at the Beach Club ticket office in the lobby.

The lady there trying to help me is very nice. I am not sure there is anything she can do at this point although she is trying to get me some number I can use at the will call window that I can use when I return in May to turn my now expired ticket into an annual pass since it was not done when I inquired about it. Do you know anything about being able to do this Dan? :)

I never thought I could afford APs until I found out you could upgrade and read everything I could here on the Dis.

We had 1-park/8-day passes. On day 6 we went to Guest Relations in Epcot. One thing I remembered for the difference between and upgrade and dollar credit was you had to have an active day left. Dan I know can verify that though.

We were able to upgrade to APs at that time. It did take some checking by the CM with a supervisor and we didn't mind waiting. The transaction took about 10 minutes overall and we are now happy AP holders...planning our next trip to the world! :cool1:

I wanted to add that I hope everything works out for you in getting the tickets you want!

I'm going to jump in with my question...

I have one day park hopper plus water park tickets that we bought so we could the dining plan. I'm going to Florida in May but not planning on visiting the parks. Can I upgrade my tickets to AP vouchers but not use them until our next trip Jan 2007? Will they be activated on the day we use them or will they start when I by them in May? Can I do this at Downtown Disney? :confused3

You should be able to upgrade, but when you do you'll probably be given an activated AP not a voucher. If the ticket is non-expiring just hold on to it until you go in 2007 and upgrade it then.

It can be done at Downtown Disney. Ask the cast member for a voucher to be used at a later date, otherwise you'll be given the active pass. I THINK they can do this, but I'm not positive.

That was your mistake right there. Resorts don't sell AP's and haven't a clue about how to upgrade MYW tickets to AP's. Resort Concierge desks are not staffed by Guest Relations CM's.

Now I know.. :) I thought she could sell AP's since she offered me the 25$ credit for the 1 day left on our tickets, but I guess not. I really wanted AP's and I should have gone to guest relations at the parks and inquired instead of just accepting what she told me. I am still hoping they can figure this out for me.. but I have not heard back from WDW yet today.
