Ok I don't think I will have these feelings after a couple of days. I upgraded from PORFQ to AKL. I think I got a good deal that's why I took it, 10 days at AKL(water view), with premium tickets+dining for 2 adults and an eight and seven year old. The cost was 3347.08 about a $600 dollar increase. Is the pool at AKL great how about the resort itself?? Thanks everyone!

We love AKL. It's a great pool, with zero-depth entry and a waterslide. Designed to look like a watering hole in Africa. We liked to take walks at night and watch the animals. Before we bought DVC, it was my favorite.

I feel your pain. I was booked for WL for 3 nights at about $799.. but then I was like "What am I thinking?".. so I downgraded to Coronado Springs and the price went to $498.

Right now, Im thinking of calling CRO and switching back to WL.. ARgh.. I wish these darn codes would come out already so I can make up my mind!

EDIT: I changed to WL.. haha. Its $300 more but oh well. :bounce:

The pool at AKL is one of my favoites. Since it is designed to look like a watering hole the bottom is a darker color and that reduces the glare fom the water. It seems more calm and peaceful to me.

Sounds like a great deal to me
You are going to LOVE AKL! It is gorgeous, has fabulous restaurants, activities, awesome pool, pool bar, gift shop, Lobby, Lounge. And that's before you even think about the animals :earboy2: . No way will you regret it!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!

You will love it there. The pool area is what made DH say, "I'd come here every year." It was great! He likes Mara being so close and really enjoys the fitness center. He and DS come back for workouts and rests while DD and I are wild Disney Freaks at the parks. DH also like the bus system. One time he went to POFQ so switch from DTD to get back to MGM and he really did not like all the stops at POFQ/POR. We all love Boma for breakfast and dinner. Try the chicken sandwich on pretzel bread from Mara...YUM!! We all enjoy the resort too and the animals. It's so relaxing there.

Although I have never stayed at AKL, I can understand your upgrade remorse. Last year we booked POR and I was happy, then the Disney Visa 4 for 7 deal came out and I upgraded to WL (I was sure somehow that the POR was a better deal, don't know what I was thinking! :confused3 ) I was so worried about upgrading.....until I arrived at WL, it was sooo worth it.
This year, booked POR again and then I got a postcard with pin, called and booked the Poly instead (for almost $1500 more!!!! :earseek: ) I am still having remorse, even though I know I will love the Poly. Maybe some day I'll get to POR, its hard once you've gone deluxe to go back!

POFQ is our favorite non-DVC resort, we love it! Especially since the renovation. But we stayed at AKL for 4 nights and can't wait to go back. It was soooo awesome! It is a beautiful resort, and the theming is incredible. So cool to watch the exotic animals from your balcony, or the other balconies with rocking chairs on them. We went swimming once or twice and really like that zero entry pool. You will love it and will be so glad you tried it! When you get there, take a deep breath and enjoy the aroma, no, it's not the animals :rotfl: There is a very pleasant aroma around the resort. The only thing we didn't like as well as POFQ was the food court, but it was adequate.

We're Poly people, but last year we took advantage of the VISA 4 for 7 deal and stayed at AKL concierge to take advantage of the animals and the safaris. We loved the resort. The animal experiences were amazing and the kid activities were bountiful. The only part of the resort we found disappointing was the pool. It was lovely to look at, but way too warm to enjoy swimming in. It is very shallow and I think it warms up quickly. On a hot day, after a long day at the parks, we really wanted to take a nice refreshing dip in the pool. That wasn't to be at AKL. It does have a very nice slide for young kids. Our daughter was afraid of the covered pool slides because they were so dark. The AKL slide is open and very fun. Whatever you decide, you'll have fun. There's no other way to have a WDW trip!

Wow....that sounds like a great price for tickets, dining AND the AKL for 10 days!!! Enjoy it now....those days of "junior" tickets and dining will get away from you really fast....rationalize it by saying the $$ you save on admissions and dining will more than make up for the diff in the resorts!! (I can ALWAYS come up with an excuse to go deluxe!!)

We love AKL and the pool area. Great pool side bar to relax at by the pool also.
The resort is very unique and we are headed back in April.

we stayed at akl savannah view for my fiances birthday & we had a wonderful time! its very relaxing & exotic, our room was nice, great view, we saw animals on the savannah everyday giraffes, wilderbeast, birds, we ordered breakfast in bed, ate dinner on our balcony at sunset one night, it was great. we enjoyed the main pool & hot tubs, ahh.

i think thats a great deal! and your kids will love the animals & storytelling at ayers rock.

I guess it was in my pin. Originally he quoted me 250 a night just for the room, then he said oh wait you have a pin number by your name and then it just got pretty cheap, in comparison. Almost half off!!!
