Upgrade question

If I have already been given my stateroom number is there still a chance that I could receive an upgrade? I know the chances are very low and we have booked a room that is great for us. I was just hoping for a surprize.

One more question, is there any rhyme or reason to a free upgrade? I mean is it only given to those who book really far in advance or what? Just curious.

We had been given our stateroom # monthes ago, got a call from our TA ,less than three weeks from the cruise date, that we had been upgraded from a Cat 11 to Cat 8!

Upgrades appear to be entirely for the convenience of DCL, so that they can accomodate everyone who has booked a stateroom, including those who booked GTY status.

Nobody on this board has been able to figure out any logic -- especially for cases when someone with an assigned stateroom number is upgraded to a higher category.

Free upgrades are rare. Nobody should be disappointed if a free upgrade does not occur.

With this upgrade for us we had cabin numbers as soon as we booked. We got told yesterday we had been given comp upgrades for both rooms so yes they still do give upgrades if you have a room number assigned. As for how they determine it I have no idea! THere are about 4 or 5 of us on the May 1 cruise that have been given upgrades so I think it must depend on the sailing and just luck of the draw.

We also just got upgraded from Cat 11 to Cat 8 and we had booked a GTY... but our friends on the same cruise got the same upgrade and they had a room assigned originally. I guess you never know.

I leaving on the Wonder 4/22/04. I booked a Cat. 11 in late January and when I got my info in March I was bump up to a Cat. 8. Just counting the days.
