Upgrade Question

I know this may sound like a stupid question, but if you were looking to pay for an upgrade, would it be better to show up early or later to the port?

That's a good question. We were first to check in last January and were able to pay for a very discounted upgrade. We shared this with friends of our that sailed in April and they checked in closer to 3:00 and got the very same upgrade. But, I do know that they have a list when the check in opens. My guess would be that the good one's might get scooped up. Just my opinion...

Doesn't look like there is much what the best time to get to the port to purchase and upgrade....so I will ask another question!

We are in a category 9. If anyone upgraded from a category 9 to some other category (5, 6 or 7), can you give me an idea of what the cost is.

Any information is appreciated! One week from now...we will be aboard the WONDER!

ok we did it at the port on the inaugural WESTERN we paid
$1000.00 for the upgrade got a $100.00 shipbaord credit
from cat 10 to cat 4 2 people so total price was for $2700.00 and ended up with $250.00 in shipboard credits

We(family of 4) sailed last year on a 4 day cruise. We originally paid for a deluxe outside on a lower level. During check-in, we upgraded to a balcony 2-3 decks higher and only paid $200.

Thanks Cindy...I can only hope that we can get an upgrade for about $200! Right now we have a category 9! We would love to upgrade and get up to a category 6 or 7! Thanks for the information!

DCL-Fan, In November 2001 we upraded from a category 8 to a category 6 for $349 (7 day eastern) and I thought that was a great deal! We checked in at 1pm (took the DCL bus from the Contemporary) and got the last cat. 5/6 upgrade on the ship. Our original booking was a points/cash combo through DVC but I think it would work the same way for all. Also, I would recommend that you check in earlier so as to not risk missing out on the upgrade - we almost did and now I agree that it was really worth it. Good luck!

We sailed last 10/01 on 7day magic. We had booked a cat9 porthole room. We upgraded at terminal to cat6 verandah for $300. I had called the week before we left to go to cruise and price was $1000. Then I called the day before we left and it was $700. So well worth the wait to upgrade at terminal. But I guess there maybe a risk of not getting upgrade if you really wanted it. We just couldn't validate such expensive upgrade but was very happy with the verandah for $300. This year we sail on 10/12/02 7day we booked cat11 on deck 6. I hope we will like inside room after having verandah. But the cat11 on western was same price for the 4 of us as our upgraded cat 6 was last year. I couldn't believe how much more expensive western trip was. But oh well, it is the best vacation we have ever had.
