Reading about all these upgrades being given......I am wondering if anyone cares to speculate about the possibility of upgrades when one uses DVC points to purchase the cruise. I don't know if point users are "less valuable" and therefor not so eagerly courted as $$$$$ customers. This will be my fourth Disney cruise, my husband's first. We are booked on the March 20 Eastern cruise. My previous cruises were all also booked with points, and we stayed in a Navigator each time, and loved it so! This time we were just 13 points short of a Navigator, so we booked an outside room. I am sorry that I had not yet discovered this board, so did not know about the wonderful possibility of "renting" points. We certainly would have made that choice, but were told the only way to get the needed points would be to ppurchase more. We do eventually want more points, but decided that at this point we needed to just reserve the lower price room. Now I am wondering about the remote possibility of being upgraded...... wishing upon a star, as it were. I am checking this board to see who will be DIS parterns on this cruise in March. We can hardly wait.

I'm nopt totally sure what you are talking about (we don't do anything to get points, and I'm new to the forum and don't know anything about renting points); but, is there any reason why you can not rent the points at this time and call back and upgrade to Navigator? At least when booking through DCL, there is no penalty for changing stuff if your outside of the 30 (or is it 60) day window.

Each time you make a ressie change with DVC for a cruise, you are charged a $75.00 fee. I know, I've been there before. This past year after making our ressies my niece asked if she could go with us, I made the change and was charged $75.00, three weeks later, my sister asked if she could go with us, I called added her to our ressie, another $75.00 charge. Those using DVC points want to make sure you have your ressie just the way you want it before making it, or it could get costly.

BTW, we did get both of our cabins upgraded from Cat. 9 to Cat. 5 on our cruise, and we used all points for both cabins.

I have been on three disney cruises with number four comming up, all were special occasions and three of them were at least part points and we have never been upgraded. nInfact other than Andy and one other person I have never heard of anyone getting an upgrade when they used points. In Andy's case I think it may have been his karma paying him back for all his random acts of kindness. It could happen but please do know it really is MUCH rarer than it appears of late to get an upgrade.
Whatever cabin you end up with I hope you have a fantastic time!

Welcome to the DIS Cruise Board Miss Eeyore!

Yes upgrades are quite rare. You hear about them when they do occur, but there are many thousands of others who sail without them every day. So best advice is to book the cabin that you would be happy cruising in. :)

You will find that many folks prefer to rent out their own DVC points and then book the Disney Cruise on cash only basis through a TA or DCL direct.

Please come visit our DIS DVC Board for lots more help on this idea! :)

Verandah Man,

How many days out from your cruise did you make changes?

Now I'll admit that I have not been on a cruise in two years, but the last time we booked a trip, we changed catagories and room numbers several times before settling down. But all of this was months in advance.

Our last changes were made the third week in April and the first week of May, before our August sailing. We were well out of the 60 day mark. Now remember, I booked through the Disney Vacation Club (DVC), not directly with Disney Cruise Line (DCL). That's why we had to pay the $75.00 fee for each change that was made.
