Upgrade MYW to AP?

Looking for someone with experience upgrading their MYW ticket to an AP. I am thinking of buying a Child Base MYW using Airmiles, and then taking that to Guest Services while at WDW to upgrade to an AP with the DVC member discount. Couple of questions:

1) Anyone ever done this?
2) Do I have to upgrade to a child's AP or can I upgrade to an adult?
3) Where can I do this upgrading? I have heard GS at WS in Epcot is the least busy - but how would I get there when I don't want to use my MYW pass?

Thanks!

I got my passes from Airmiles and I did upgrade them at WDW last month. I got 5 day base tickets from AM and I upgraded them to 7 day no expire. I was told about a year ago that the best way to do this would be to use one day on the passes before I attempted to upgrade. I went to GS at DTD and they charged me the difference between 5 and 7 days (approx. $4) and then they added the no expire (approx. $90).

I would guess that it would be the same to upgrade to an AP.

I haven't done this myself but I've also read that it's best to use the ticket once before upgrading. I think once you use it, Disney can't tell whether you bought it from them or from a discount ticket agent.

To find out whether you can upgrade a child's ticket to an adult AP, you could probably just call Disney. They might also be able to give you the approximate amount that you would have to pay, not sure.

This is exactly what I was told about using the tickets before upgrading. Whether it's true or not I was not charged anything other than the price they display for tickets. I had read somewhere that when you buy tickets at a discount you have to first pay the amount of the discount and then the fees to upgrade.

You can upgrade a child ticket into an adult ticket so I don't see that an AP would be any different. I agree, call Disney and ask. However, I would call more than once and ask the same question of a couple of different CM's.

As far as the price goes you can look up the price of the ticket you have and the AP. The difference is what you should pay or at least you'll be in the right ball park.

I just wanted to add ---

I printed the price list from the Disney website and had it with me when I did the upgrade. I was charged exactly what was on the price list plus tax. So that is what leads me to believe in the "use it once first" thing.

After a person of age 3 to 9 starts using the child ticket, it is not necessary to upgrade to adult at the time of converting to an AP or adding features.

Disney hints: http://members.aol.com/ajaynejr/disney.htm

Nowadays (2007) when Magic Your Way tickets when upgraded to have more features or to become AP's, what you pay is the gate price of what you wanted minus the gate price of what you had. In addition DVC members still get their discount.
