We are returning to WDW after 3.5 years, before which we went four times in one year on an AP. Then we got sorta burned out (love Disney, don't get me wrong) but are going now in Jan to meet up with relatives from Canada.

I asked MS about this but could not get a clear/definitive reply. Can I purchase the 'Magic Your Way' for 6 days, then, on say the 5th day, upgrade it to an AP WITH the DVC owner discount? It seems it can be done at regular price but I was not able to get a satisfactory answer re the DVC discount.

An example of what I am trying to do would be: 6 days MYW = aprx $208. DVC AP = $315, difference = $107.

Don't get me wrong, if this question has anything to do with somehow beating the system, forget it. I think I understand what you are trying to do and answer would be no. I believe you want to start your AP at a certain date with upgrade costs deducted. If it could have been done many of us would do it. Good try, but WDW was not born yesterday. If it could be done as you suggest with normal AP's you would save $7.00 but how much time would you spend buying and turning in your tickets. We need a person like you in government to help control spending!! :goodvibes

Yes, you can do that. The year of admission on your AP will begin on the first day that you used your MYW ticket. There is no monetary advantage to buying the MYW ticket and upgrading it to an AP. Your total out of pocket will still be $315.

To get credit for the full price you paid for the MYW ticket, you will need to upgrade before the ticket is used up and within 14 days of the first use of the MYW ticket. If you want to get a DVC discounted AP, be sure to bring your blue membership card and a photo ID with you to Guest Services.

Unless you aren't sure if you will be back within a year, my advice is to just buy the DVC discounted pass to begin with.

Thanks. I have no intention of gaming the system... not looking for a freebie, just trying to avoid wasting money. I do know already that DIS is smarter than that, and I'd like to think I am too... one measure of intelligence is a reluctance to underestimate that of others. Sorry for not being clear though.

What I intend is: if, after 4-5 days of using the pass, we feel, ok, we had underestimated (there's that word again!) WDW's repeat appeal to us and really would like to return within the year, that I don't have to buy an *undiscounted* AP. I know the date would be retroactive, with no actual reductions, etc, but the question really was, can I still get the DVC discount when upgrading to the AP from an MYW before the MYW expires, given the MYW was bought at street prices, the only way to get one today.

I realize there are many ways to frame this question (and I have now tried at least two), so no offense taken. And I think CarolMN has kindly answered the question as intended, thanks Carol. I have so far been unable to get a hold of a CM from MS that could answer this to the point, just more proof that there is great wisdom and experience on this board; one just has to find it.

FWIW, very few of the MS CMs are ticket experts, so it is very possible you will not get a satisfactory answer when you do reach MS.

I am quite sure my answer is correct. You can purchase a DVC discounted AP (providing you qualify). How you pay for it doesn't matter (you can upgrade, apply the remaining value of a partially used pass, or just pay cash).

There have been several reports here and on the Theme Parks Board from people who have done exactly what you might like to do.

You can read all about the in and outs of upgrading / getting credit for partially used WDW passes by clicking here. I have found the info there to be helpful as well as accurate.
