The 4 day hopper I want to upgrade is new and unused - we are heading to WDW the 25-28th of Dec.
Can't hardly wait - it's a total surprise to my 4yr old - he won't find out until we actually get in the car xmas morning (we're only 2 1/2 hours away).!
A surprise? How neat! You're going to have a great time.
You should have no problem upgrading your hoppers. I only asked because if they were older hoppers it might make better financial sense to use them instead of upgrading them.
If you have a Disney store you can take them there to upgrade, or you can wait and bring them to Dinsey with your receipt to Guest Relations and just do it there.
If I am wrong, someone will correct me but I think those are the way's it can be done.

You can upgrade the unused PH or PHP to an Annual Pass at a WDW Guest Relations window. If the pass was purchased from Disney (Disney.com, The Disney Store, etc.) you will receive the full purchase price as a credit toward your AP.
If you bought it from a third-party ticket vendor, you will lose 10-15% of what you paid for the pass. WDW sells passes at a wholesale price to outfits like Ticketmania and Paramount, and those vendors then add some upcharge to cover their own expenses. You will only get credit for the wholesale price, whatever that may be.
