Upgrade daily tickets

So it’s been 5 years since we visited Disney. We only live about 1.5 hrs from Disney so we are thinking of purchasing Annual Passes. I noticed a lot has changed over the years so I am hoping to get some answers here.

-We want to see how the parks are before deciding on annual passes. Can we purchase 4 one day passes and upgrade them at the EOD if we enjoyed it. How does this work if it can be done.
-From what I am reading, park hopping can only happen after 2pm is that true
-do annual passes holders get discounts on the lightning lane passes?
-Last, can we just show up to a park without a reservation? We sometimes decide at the last minute to go.

4 single-day tickets or a 4-day ticket? The single-day tickets cannot be combined into one AP, but one can be upgraded to an AP as long as you upgrade it that same day the ticket is used. Likewise a 4-day ticket can be upgraded at any point until park close on the date you use the 4th entry.

Park hopping is not restricted to after 2pm anymore. Park-to-park buses don’t start until 10am.

No discount on Lightning Lanes.

APs must have a theme park reservation to enter prior to 2pm, or to enter MK on the weekend.

4 single day tickets. It looks like each ticket for the day we go are $164 each. If we decide to upgrade to pirate annual passes which are $829, do we take $164 off of $829 which is $665 and pay that for each pass?

Correct. You’ll receive credit for what you paid for the 1-day ticket. That amount is deducted from the AP cost. Remember to upgrade THAT DAY because the credit won’t be any good the next day.

Yes, that's correct. If you have a 4-day ticket, the value of it will be applied to the cost of the AP and you pay the difference.

Yes. Each person can start with a 1 day ticket, then add days a few at a time or one at a time, and finally upgrade to an annual pass.

But it is usually a disadvantage for any one person to end up buying or using two theme park tickets during the same vacation of more than 3 days or evolving into more than 3 days.

They offered for me to upgrade my Florida ticket to annual pass with monthly payments when we were entering AK last August. YMMV.
If you aren’t going this week, I would not recommend buying tickets just yet. There is often a Florida resident special after spring break.
