There is always a chance, but very unlikely and only if it benefits Disney usually. Have I been upgraded yes, usually for medical reasons, when the see a blind person with a guide dog, and they were going to put us in the last building in the last room than yes sometimes they have changed the room to preferred, actually they did not change it until I almost fell in the river. Yes they changed me from BC deluxe room with concierge to contemporary garden hospitality suite, but we did try for 4 days to make it work first and then when it was not able to they moved us, BC has to many hallways and cut off hallways, and they also throw laundry on the floors in hallways for hours, something a blind person has a problem with. We were upgraded at BWV from a studio to a 1 bedroom, I will assume because we were only there 2 nights and it benefited them. They upgraded a blind person from a standard to a theme park room at grand Floridian, because we asked for hand rails in shower and that was the only room that had them, again I assumed because it was only 2 days they upgraded us and not someone who was there for 7 days. All but once was for a medical reason, so does it happen, yes the shorter the stay the more likely, andusually not to a different hotel, although that has been done, especially if something goes wrong at the room r resort you picked. Like we are booked at POFQ in Jan, they are doing a small refurb. Now say for some reason they pull out all the rugs in building two and find out they are short 5 rooms that they don't have enough rug for and can not use them and the hotel is full, and one of the rooms is a handicap room with tub rails, than yes they might move me to a hotel with tub rails, it could be an upgrade or a down grade, they could move me to poly or to pop, poly they would not charge me for, pop I would ask for money back plus something for an inconvince. But I would say they would put me as close to what I had to begin with, if I have king bed they would put me king bed at pop, if I had a room for 5 they would put me in a room for 5. So I would book the room with the beds you want because that is the most important for you.
