I brought a GPS last year (Garmin nuvi 200) and according to the site, it has been discontinued. So I'm guessing there is no way to update the maps? According to the site, the updates are not free.

I only paid about $100 for it so I'm guessing I may need to buy another one?

Map updates are usually around $100 so you might be better off getting a new one, spending a bit more and getting lifetime map updates for free.

You should have the option of updating maps though you will have to purchase either a one time update or a lifetime of updates.

I have a discontinued Nuvi but can still update the maps on it.

Which GPS's offer lifetime map updates?

We bought a brand new model of Garmin at work, and THOSE needed a map update right out of the box.

GPS's are like cell phones, they don't make their money on the device, they make their money on servicing it in the futre.

Thanks for bringing this up! I purchased lifetime maps at an additional cost when I purchased my Garmin GPS. I just got an e-mail last week telling me an update was available. I put it off at the time because it can take HOURS to update the maps. I learned to do it right before bedtime so, maybe by morning, it will be done!;)

I have a Nuvi 350 that's also discontinued, but I can update the maps. It's $80 I think for a one time update or $90 for lifetime.

I'm going to switch over to Tom Tom though. The price of the map upgrade will be about 1/2 of the cost of a new Tom Tom as well as I'm looking for a bigger screen and I like the way Tom Tom has the advanced lane guidance and the lifetime maps that are quarterly updates as well as traffic alerts (on some models).

And you can get Darth Vader or Yoda for your "voice" :thumbsup2.

TomTom has lifetime maps. DH just got one for Xmas. Shhh don't tell MIL that he already opened it. :rolleyes1
