Updates to MyMagic+ coming soon ***Official April 10, post #102 page 6***

I'm confused... why pre-book a 'wasted' FP when you can pre-book in advance the FP you want at the time you want? I'd rather pre-book 3 FP that are exactly what I want than 2 I want and 1 I 'waste' plus have a potluck (whatever is left) 4th FP. Not trying to criticize, I'm just trying to understand your strategy. I'm still struggling with my own FP strategy, so I'm looking at all viewpoints.
The early morning fast pass isn't necessarily "wasted" (it may depend on the crowds and time of the year) . .but from my experience it was.

I personally just liked the way it sorta of "forced" a plan for the morning and then the flexibility it gave for the afternoon (especially since I was touring with a toddler). I would rather have a 9:30 AM Fast Pass for Disney Junior Show (that wasn't need (theatre was half full) .. than a 4:30 PM one for Tower of Terror and be "locked" into a plan for the entire day until that point and worry about being available at that time. That being said .. I will deviate from that plan if there is a big ride that is a "must do" . (like Seven Dwarves Mine Train) .. I won't waste a Fast Pass in the morning JUST so I can be done with all them by noon .. but it will definitely be preferred over taking one late in the day.

It is easier for me to plan 3 consecutive Fast Passes .. 9:30 Disney Junior, 10:30 TSMM, 11:30 Star Tours -- 12:15 Lunch .. and then have the ENTIRE afternoon free and flexible to schedule that fourth fast pass as needed.

And it worked for us .. It was just fun and flexible. If I was "locked in" to a 3rd Fast Pass in the afternoon (or evening) on a ride I really wanted to go on .. I would have just felt our afternoon would be interrupted and things before and after would have to be planned AROUND that fast pass time (nope .. can't see Beauty and the Beasty because then we'd miss the Fast Pass Window .. etc. etc. ) ... I just like having that free time to do whatever in the afternoon and evening -- build a lightsaber spend as much time as needed at a dance party, take your time at dinner, etc.

I guess we lucked out on our trip in June. We went to Magic Kingdom on an 8 or 9 crowd level Sunday and this is what we did:
At rope drop we made our way to Space Mountain and did the standby line twice (my husband got a kid swap pass and did Winnie the Pooh with my 3 year old while I was on SM with my other two children)
We then did pictures with Merida. We were done by 10:00. (Rope drop was at 8:50.)
Two photo sessions at the castle
Pirates
Pictures taken outside of Pirates
FP 1 Jungle Cruise 10:50
Little Mermaid ride
Lunch at Be Our Guest at 11:50
Train splash pad
FP2 Big Thunder Mountain Railroad 1:30
FP 3 Splash Mountain 1:55
Parade at 3:00
Hall of Presidents after the parade (three people took naps)
FP 4 Haunted Mansion 4:25
FP 5 It's a Small World 4:55
Carousel
6:00 Photos with Tiana
FP 6 Photos with Tinker Bell 6:30
Supper
FP 7 Tomorrowland Speedway 7:45
FP 8 The Barnstormer 8:20
Dumbo
Photo session with Ariel 9:15
Fireworks
FP 9 Buzz Lightyear
Then we went home.

That will be great for the 4th FP. One of the longest waits the entire trip was for the FP kiosk! We didn't really ever try to do 4th because of the long kiosk lines. I did make use of changing times and attractions on the initial 3 from the app and if it will be that easy to make the 4th+, we will be more likely to do so.

I am super excited and hoping they will have the 4th fp on the phone working for our early April trip. Has anyone speculated what this will do for sdfp on bands without park tickets? Seems like a good time for them to close the loophole unfortunately.

It shouldn't affect it. The "in park" FP kiosk system is based on RFID that doesn't link directly to FPs for that specific day. It is not necessary to have an MDE account to access a FP kiosk due to guests who arrive at the park and purchase tickets for that day.

4th FP from the app is dependent upon MDE and usage of pre-booked FPs. It's two completely different systems that feed FP data into the data bank that is accessed via the FP tapstiles.

Well that would be awesome. Seems like you always have answers to my questions. I feel like you should be charging me. :-) thanks!!

I know nothing of Disney software development processes, but I work in the engineering field and I know that sometimes when 'the hood is open' other changes and fixes get rolled in. I would think it would be possible to require that the band was used for entry that day as a means to close the loophole. But again, I don't really know, just speculating.

I also wonder if they'll get rid of the kiosks entirely. Probably not at first, but maybe long term.

Until everyone (or at least 1 person in each group) who enters the park each day has a smart phone, they won't be able to eliminate the kiosks completely. There are still quite a few people who have "not smart" phones and will still rely on the kiosks to make FP+ reservations as well as changes or modifications. There was a woman on another message board whining about how this change really doesn't benefit her because she still has a flip phone and that Disney can't assume that everyone has a smart phone, yadda, yadda yadda. I know she's not alone (as far as having a flip phone...not necesarily the "everything Disney does must be a benefit for *everyone* attitude).

Congratulations @Dan Murphy this thread made #2 on the Top 5 threads on the DIS unplugged podcast!

I've avoided getting in line to get a 4th FP+. But I'm sure once it's available on the app, I'll be taking full advantage of it.

It will benefit her a bit as well, because with all of us using our phones, the kiosk lines will be shorter for her :-)

That's what I said, too. But she still complained about having to go ALLLLLL the way to the kiosks to make her reservations while "everyone else" will be able to make reservations while standing in line for their current FP ride. Some people just love to find something to complain about.

Until she realizes how much faster those spots go with so many others having far easier access.

maybe someone can help me understand the extra magic band sneer. In my MDE account I have 2 magic banks from my last visit and one coming for our next trip in June. How can I use the old magic bands to secure 3 more fast passes the day we enter the parks.
My MDE account is linked to our new reservations and some old tickets that may or may not have days on them.
Im so confused

It doesn't apply to your scenario. All your MBs are clones. They all provide a direct link to your specific data.

As far as I know, you can only use the old MBs of someone who is not in the park on the day you want to use them.

If there is a way, someone with more experience might be able to help.

You need another set of Magicbands that are associated with a *different* MDE account. Multiple Magicbands on the same account won't work.

There is a good description in this thread.

Actually it doesn't have to be on another account. They would just need to be assigned to "dummies" on the original acct. but they can also use old MBs from family members as long as those people are not in the parks/on the trip.

Fair enough. I was referring to one person having multiple Magicbands usable for this purpose.

I knew there would be the ability to book your 4th FP+ from inside MDE. I called it a while ago. There was no technological reason why it couldn't be rolled out.

Lots of us did. Its a great change for sure, I do wonder how much it will affect FP+ usage and eat up ride capacity further, could make SB lines even worse, or it might be that FP+ usage is already about as high as it can be and so this wont change much other than allow people to book with the app instead of at a kiosk.

Just got back from my vacation last week. A few observations (besides how incredibly CROWDED it was -- biggest crowds I've ever experienced):

1) they cannot move fast enough IMO to allow 4th FP+ to be booked by smartphone. The long kiosk lines seemed so pointless to have to endure. And it wasted Disney resources -- they supplemented the limited kiosks with employees with ipads given the long lines.
2) even when the good stuff was "sold out," inventory changed all the time, often by the minute as other people changed their own plans. I was forced to choose some rather middling 4th FP+ and then by regularly checking the app on my smart phone, successfully made changes to get Peter Pan, Space Mountain and Rock N' Roller Coaster (on different days).
