Updates That Aren't There

Lately I have been receiving emails notifying me of updates to threads but when I click on the link to that thread there is no update. This has happened several times on the CM board and also on the Community Board. I refresh the screen, thinking maybe this is the problem, but no luck. The most recent was for an update on the 7th but the thread only shows updates thur the 4th. Would you have any ideas on why this is happening? Thank you so much for your help!

Could you post here which threads you've had this happen with?

I know that there are time that I've posted a reply to a thread and it has taken quite a long time to show up. Have you been back to these threads to see if the updates ever showed up?

It could just be another glitch associated with the load problems on the boards right now. There is work being done that is supposed to take care of the issues. You might just wait until these changes are implemented and see if it continues to happen after that.

The threads are in the Cast Members Only board, so I would rather not post the exact threads here. I have been back to the particular threads that the updates were received from many times over the past few days and no new posts have been added. They just seemed to stop dead on March 4th.

While it might be a glitch with the load problems it does not seem to be a consistent one as many other threads are updated almost instantaneously on this same board, and the other boards I follow. It's just a few threads that I got updates on but the posts never materialized.

Just thought I would mention it. I know you folks have a lot on your plates right now.

While I was typing my reply I got not one but TWO virtually instantaneous notifications of BobBrazeal's reply to my post! Life is good, even in duplicate.

That's fine, I just thought it would make it easier for a moderator to track it down if they knew which threads it was. Also, my understanding of how the various board permissions work, even if you post a link here to a thread in a private forum, only people approved for that forum will be able to follow the link. Meaning that I could see the link, I could click on the link but I would get a screen telling me that I didn't have permission to view that thread as it was on a private forum. Only those administrators or approved moderators would be able to go to that thread.

Is it happening on every thread you've subscribed to, or just some? I've seen reports of email notifications of new posts that show up before the reply does, but it sounds like you are talking about ones that never show up.

There are a small number of threads that are not locked, yet users are unable to post to. It may well be that users are attempting to post, and your are receiving an email, but their posts are not ever actually appearing.

Correct, the posts never show up.

This problem is only on a few threads, not all that I subscribe to, Lisa. I receive email notifications (sometimes six or seven notifications of a particular update) and when I go to the thread there is no update there at all... and has not been an update for several days.

If the threads were locked, would folks have been able to post to them and would email notifications of updates have been generated? Yes?

Oh! I see what you are saying, maybe it *is* that folks are trying to post but the server locks up in the transmission, that may be a possibility.

I will try to post to one thread that I know I received a notification on that never appeared and will let you know what happens. It is on a CM board, I will PM you the URL when I have the answer.

I'm also experiencing difficulties on the CM only board. I will have up to 8 or 9 notifications of a reply to a thread I've participated in, only to go into the board, and find nothing. I also received notification that kt-scarlett had a reply to a particular thread, when I went to look for it, nothing is showing up as being posted....the last post to that thread being many days before. I'm also having a little difficulty getting my replys to even post sometimes.

Hope all gets ironed out, I will wait and see.

Yes. It definitely sounds like more of the server/database problems we've been experiencing. It is happening on all of the boards. I'm also getting multiple notifications.

There is a solution in the works, but it will take a bit of time to be implemented.
In the meantine, my suggestion is to start a new thread with a link to the old thread. Include a note that the old thread seems to be corrupted, and to please reply on the new thread. I know it's not perfect, but it's the best I can offer for the time being.

There's not anything we can do about the multiple notices at the moment. That should resolve as well, when the solution is in place.

I thank you all for your patience. I know, it's very frustrating, but Alex is doing the best he can.

One more thing, if it would make things less confusing, you could ask the board moderator to lock any threads that are unable to be posted to. It might save the users the frustration of attempting to post to a thread they are unable to.
