Updated US Testing Requirements

Hi everyone,

Apologies for the US-centric thread, but I called ABD with a question this morning and thought I'd post the info I got in case others have the same question.

For our Feb 2022 booking, we booked a post-day and I was curious how the "test within 1 day of flying to the US" would work with that new requirement (re: our return trip back to the US) in combination with an extended trip.

I was told ABD will still be managing the required pre-US flight testing during post-days if your post-day(s) were booked through ABD. If you booked additional days independently, you'll need to handle your own pre-flight testing.

Hope this helps someone else with a curious mind!

Travelers - We have an upcoming ABD trip with multiple pre-days booked with ABD but several post days NOT booked with ABD. For those who have traveled internationally already this year, please share with us what/how you coordinated the requisite COVID testing the day before your flight back to the US. Any stories on solutions or problems encountered would be greatly appreciated.

For our flight back from Greece last August, United Airlines sold Binax test kits very similar to the OTC Binax kits on sale at Walmart, etc. We purchased them online through a link provided by United, and they were mailed to us prior to our departure. The price was about $100 for 3. The kit included a number to call and the test was conducted with someone observing the process during a video link via our cell phone. The camera stayed focused on the test card for the 15 minute waiting period. At the end of the 15 minutes, we showed them the (fortunately negative) results. They then sent us an email that we submitted to United. Easy process even though this was our first time using those tests kits.

The (Blue Palace in Crete) hotel also had pre-flight testing services which many other travelers were using.

We were pretty nervous, but since it was Greece we were outside most of our vacation. We were supposed to be on a Greece ABD during this timeframe which was of course cancelled so travelled to Athens. Santorini and Crete on our own.

I got excited when I saw the title of this thread, thinking (and hoping!) someone was posting news that the US finally dropped their requirements for negative tests to get back into the country…then realized it was not new info,,,,sigh, I need to remember to check thread start dates!!

We came back from Ecuador in January and had to test; ultimately the place we stayed on our last night was also willing to help us obtain testing done onsite which was emailed to us a few hours later (PCR test) but we could have easily done it at the airport as well. They have a spot in the airport itself to do either rapid PCR or antigen testing as needed. The country has a flat fee of $45 no matter where you get it, so we did not need to shop around at all, we just went with what was most convenient.
