Updated- Planning a WDW vaca with these hurricanes 3 wks before we leave

reminds me an awful lot of the stress we went through in 02.
We kept hearing about cleaning, etc until finally the planned trip was cancelled. It was the last 3wks before our trip was to happen and here I am in the same countdown timeframe.

So now do I go ahead and plan this trip for Oct 1? or not?
I am going October 2 and have no intention of canceling unless there is a hurricane coming towards Florida. I wouldn't cancel until you got closer.

well I can tell from "some" replies Im seeing that some of you havent read my other threads
We found out last night that MILs Barefoot Bay home lost its front porch, carport and shed (which house washer/dryer, etc). They havent gotten inside the home yet to find out the inside damage. Friends of hers in the same neighborhood had their roof come off their home and totally destroyed their home.
MIL has no idea if she's coming or going - leaving now or waiting. This was to be DSs first trip to her FL home. So yes I understand how people have been impacted from the past hurricanes.
Yes we have already had our Oct 1 vaca impacted. Im not thinking of what "may" happen btwn now and then. Not sure if we should find someplace to stay those last 2nights of our vaca or hang on and wait till MIL knows the indoor damage.

.

Didn't know that it was a requirement to read all threads by a poster before replying to a current thread. If the information in the other threads is important to your decision of whether to cancel or not you should have included it in this thread or at least linked those threads to this. Most people on this thread were simply replying to the what you asked in this thread. To scold them for not knowing the whole situtation IMHO is wrong.

Well if your in-laws place is that badly damaged a bunch of people staying with them is the last thing they're going to need/want. If you want to go do it. I'd suggest a hotel away from the Micco area though because everyone that has been displaced by the hurricane could use those rooms.

Book rooms now. IF your mil wants you to stay with her, then you can cancel. It truly isn't a gargantuan decision. WE book rooms all the time if we "think" we may be going to an area. Generally you can cancel up to 4 pm on the date of arrival.

There you go :) Wasn't that difficult was it? :)

Cheers,
Grumbo

I think we've all read plenty of your posts.

I mean this in all sincerity. I watched you agonize over whether or not to vacation post 9/11 in 2001. The cancelled cruise saga of 2002 where you claimed to have wound up sobbing over a cardboard cutout of the cruise ship in your Disney hotel lobby is way too fresh in my mind. Post after post after post for MONTHS. The mods finally banned your username I'mGoingToDisney.

During 2003 -- Man in the Mountain (a rock formation) fell and you almost seemed convinced that your life was ruined.

The point is, things can happen on vacation. Weather can turn bad, kids can get sick, hotels can have difficulties and switch your rooms around, parks can close and change hours, your MIL's home can be damaged in a hurricane......

Changes just seem to throw you into an emotional turmoil. At least from they way you post, your vacas appear to be more emotional agony than enjoyable fun.

You asked my opinion and I gave it. If you are going to worry and obsess over this vaca the way you have for the past 3 years, then it is not worth it. Save yourself and your family the stress and cancel.

Can I ask a stupid question? Since this poster has obviously posted under other names and has to change because I assume she's been previously banned, why do the mods keep letting her come back under a new one? Am I being dense here?

And without your update, we would have known all of this how?

I have to say I agree with Toby's Friend. Vacations really do seem to cause you an undue amount of stress and angst. I would see if you can cancel or reschedule if you are already starting to stress again.

She wouldn't be the first. There are plenty posting here that have been banned at least once. I have no idea why they keep letting them come back unless they are getting through from another computer site.

OMG...skiwee and newholiday at the Poly pool at the same time...I want pictures!:p

imgingtodisney/Barb/newholiday......just Chill, already.

Another vote to reschedule and stay home! The incessant stress is NOT worth it and things that are out of your control seem to send you over the edge. Book at a time when hurricanes and Norwalk viruses aren't issues such as early spring.

I don't blame you, Barb, for being worried about the weather on your upcoming trip. As was suggested previously, maybe you'd better make a hotel reservation as a back-up in case your MIL's house isn't in good shape.

To everyone here who is "stressed" over having to read Barb's posts about her vacation, here's a suggestion for you: DON'T READ THEM!

Newholiday's name as the OP is very obvious, and if reading about her anxiety over her vaca plans bothers you, don't read her threads. Frankly, some of us don't enjoy reading snide remarks, especially when they're directed at someone who always minds her own business here.

Whatever you decide, Barb, here's wishing you the best. :)

I'd be worried as well, but it sounds like you may want to go in order to support your MIL. She must be terribly frightened. Booking a hotel room sounds like a good plan.

I think this is the MIL's summer home and she lives near newholiday(??) I don't think she is frightened.....just unsure of the condition of the inside of the house.

I stand corrected.

In that case, I'd still book hotel rooms in case and decide later on whether to cancel.

The same reason all the other banned people keep coming back, I guess.

I thought Newholiday was going to the WL, not the Poly. Unless she turns into one of those poolhoppers!

::yes::

I believe her family's plans (as a DVC "pool hopping rights" person) are to take the boat from WLV to the Contemporary, hop the monorail and ride to the Poly pool.

I'm not trying to be funny but isn't there a pill you can take for this.
You know stress is very bad on the body:bounce:

Oh my.

To Barb,
I'm sorry for your stress, and your MIL's house.
I hope you have a great vacation whatever you decide to do.

I usually stay out of these posts
But, I really hate when My usually kind, and compassionate DIS family gets nasty like this.

I always wonder what a newbie or lurker thinks when they see this side of the DIS. It really upsets me.
So I'll step down now,and press my Back button.

Can't we all just get along, please.............
Remember what Mom always said,
"If you can't say something nice, Don't say anything at all." :)
