A bit on the extreme side, but I understand dinner is really important to some.
I wouldn't stop sailing DCL bc of the food, but still..
I can see this happening soon in Palo brunch as well.
And next the eye scream, and the soda stations, etc..
I can see why they'd do it... they've been hurt by the pandemic & they're looking to recoup.
But I wish they'd stop doing it and just CHARGE MORE upfront for the price of the cruise and let ppl decide if the price is worth it or not.
DCL should just stop this nickel and diming.
To me it's not really the cost. It's the continuous erosion of Platinum, and castaway benefits.
As Platinum Castaway Club Guests you and your stateroom Guests, ages 18 and older, will continue to be offered one complimentary meal at Palo. For dinner, the offer includes the prix fixe option regular price of $45 per person. You may add additional items from the a la carte menu for an additional charge. You also also choose to apply the offer toward the a la carte menu selections up to $45 instead of the pre fixe menu.
So let me make sure I understand this, if you do NOT want the prix fixe menu:
- Platinum: You get a $45 credit against whatever you order
- NOT Platinum: You pay the $45 to go and that is credited against whatever you order, but there is a $45 minimum as you have to pay that just to go
Is that right?
At least they confirmed that you CAN apply the $45 value to a la carte items. This actually allows me to tolerate the changes more. I don't like it, but I can choose what I want and only pay $15-$30 for a nice quiet dinner. It's a devalue for sure but for those that are not platinum, choosing your own a la carte options can be a $60-$90 meal so it's still worth it to me.Quick update, I heard back from the Concierge team. Their response was as expected. And they didn't address my concerns about the reduction in Castaway Club benefits. To be fair, these folks are just passing along the information.
My choices are usually lamb or Dover Sole, and we definitely liked the antipasti cart.
I’m not pleased.
I'd rather they give me a $45 OBC to use however I want.
I didn't realize you had to get an $11k room as a platinum memberThis is 100% a devalue for Platinum guests as I'm guessing going a la carte will cost guests more on average than the $45. It also means the perk is worth exactly $45. So, for your loyalty to Disney you essentially get a $45 credit on your cruise should you choose to use it. Makes that $11,000 concierge room totally worth it![]()

...The little pallete cleanser is not worth $8 per person; we'll skip it. It WAS a nice touch though, that was atmospheric and indulgent. I wonder if they'll charge for after dinner coffee now as well?
