Updated Palo Menu

My choices are usually lamb or Dover Sole, and we definitely liked the antipasti cart.

I’m not pleased.

A bit on the extreme side, but I understand dinner is really important to some.
I wouldn't stop sailing DCL bc of the food, but still..

I can see this happening soon in Palo brunch as well.
And next the eye scream, and the soda stations, etc..
I can see why they'd do it... they've been hurt by the pandemic & they're looking to recoup.
But I wish they'd stop doing it and just CHARGE MORE upfront for the price of the cruise and let ppl decide if the price is worth it or not.

DCL should just stop this nickel and diming.

DCL doesn't nickel and dime. They quarter and dollar. :)

Quick update, I heard back from the Concierge team. Their response was as expected. And they didn't address my concerns about the reduction in Castaway Club benefits. To be fair, these folks are just passing along the information.

As Platinum Castaway Club Guests you and your stateroom Guests, ages 18 and older, will continue to be offered one complimentary meal at Palo. For dinner, the offer includes the prix fixe option regular price of $45 per person. You may add additional items from the a la carte menu for an additional charge. You also also choose to apply the offer toward the a la carte menu selections up to $45 instead of the pre fixe menu.

So let me make sure I understand this, if you do NOT want the prix fixe menu:
- Platinum: You get a $45 credit against whatever you order
- NOT Platinum: You pay the $45 to go and that is credited against whatever you order, but there is a $45 minimum as you have to pay that just to go

Is that right?

That's my understanding based on the reply I got from DCL.

At least they confirmed that you CAN apply the $45 value to a la carte items. This actually allows me to tolerate the changes more. I don't like it, but I can choose what I want and only pay $15-$30 for a nice quiet dinner. It's a devalue for sure but for those that are not platinum, choosing your own a la carte options can be a $60-$90 meal so it's still worth it to me.

Now if they mess with my Brunch, we will have issues.

This is 100% a devalue for Platinum guests as I'm guessing going a la carte will cost guests more on average than the $45. It also means the perk is worth exactly $45. So, for your loyalty to Disney you essentially get a $45 credit on your cruise should you choose to use it. Makes that $11,000 concierge room totally worth it ;)

The cart was such a treat, almost like a little show. I really enjoyed that. I hope that if we order that antipasti it will be served in a similar fashion. And the Sole is one of favorites, along with the Osso Buco.

Glad we can apply the $45 as a credit to ala cart menu. Also now that we have prices to use to figure tip at either 20% or 25% I would actually be leaving less than the $40-45 tip I left in the past because I didn’t know the comparable cost of the meal.

Not platinum, not happy. Basically, it's just another place to eat to that costs now. I think the thing I'll miss the most are the "extras" we used to get as part of the experience. When travelling with a large family, we'd always end up undecided about what to order. And then our server (who we always had a really great connection with across multiple sailings) would end up bringing out our entrees AND 3 or 4 more plates for us to try as a group. Prompts for seconds, including desserts. Bringing us items to sample or try just for the fun of it w/o us even thinking we needed/wanted something.

Ha. Those days are now long gone.

The "sides" offered definitely make the menu feel more like a steakhouse also, which I guess is what they're going for on the Wish, right? Maybe Enchante will make up for the erosion of the Palo experience...

I didn't realize you had to get an $11k room as a platinum member ;) I'm pulling your leg of course. I understand you feel devalued because your Palo perk is limited to $45 a person now. Did you mean to come off sounding that entitled?

That‘s not what I get from info so far. Platinum, yes.

Everyone else: like any restaurant that offers a Prix Fixe menu (Palo previously had one with the wine pairing), you typically choose the package dinner or order from the “regular menu,” paying for each item you want.

If that’s true, the question will become is there a minimum charge? Are people going to book a table and only order a soufflé?

Did I miss / forget that I read there would be a minimum? I’ll go look and may have to delete this post ;)

...The little pallete cleanser is not worth $8 per person; we'll skip it. It WAS a nice touch though, that was atmospheric and indulgent. I wonder if they'll charge for after dinner coffee now as well?
...

Did we have a palette cleanser (sorbet) midway and a slushy limoncello at the end? (It’s been a while...)

That last sentence was a saving grace to this change, for me. What a difference a little more info makes. I wasn’t looking forward to only steak and soufflé. (although the menu does show the filet dinner as unchanged. It still has the potato and spinach, not just a steakhouse offering of a piece of meat on a hot plate.)

... Thanks for getting clarification on this.
