Updated 'Ohana Menu

We have a serious shellfish allergy in our party so the skewer thing is a concern for me. Is everything on the same skewer or are the meats kept away from the shellfish. Is there a way to make sure there is no shellfish contamination, or would that be a big deal to arrange? Don't want to start our vacation with a trip to the hospitalThanks!

Darn I liked the peel and eat shrimp! Guess I would have to fill up on the potatoes ... oh and one of those wonderful fruity drinks ... :drinking: (Then I don't care WHAT is on the menu!).
I love the Island Sunset drink, it's absolutly delicious.

Dude...Until those potatoes go, I won't. So I guess we cancel each other out...But seriously those potatoes are gross and how exactly are they Polynesian (other than the lame name)?:confused3

I have no idea how they are Polynesian either, but I disagree with you about the taste, they are delicious. The potatoes, and the bread pudding, are the best parts of the meal IMO.

They're not on the same skewer - each skewer only has one type of meat on it - but they are prepared in the same grill area.

Disney restaurants are very good about special food needs such as allergies. If you make a note on your ADR, then again when you check in at the podium and again when your server gets to the table (so that everybody involved knows about the allergy), you should be able to get foods with no shelfish contamination.

I also have shellfish allergies, alhtough I have to actually eat them (mine is gastrointestinal, not anaphylactic reaction) and we ate there in '05. Each skewer has a different meat on it. They really are very good about keeping things as separate as they can because so many people seem to have allergies. I jsut told our server I had an allergy and my DH doesn't eat shrimp so they didnt' even bring it around once they found that out. And we jsut told them not to bring the shrimp appetizer (which they had then) at all.

We ate there on Feb. 4th and we had dumplings...not very good dumplings...but definitely, we had them.

I'm not that surprised, that they forgot the dumplings. They also forgot the bread. Thankfully, we noticed that other tables had bread, asked for it, and they brought some later on. I love 'Ohana, but just like everywhere else, they have some consistency issues. I'm ticked off that we missed out on the dumplings. :headache:

Thanks for the info on the shellfish. Maybe we will try it this trip. We are trying to be less "commando" so this might right right in!

This menu change looks like it might be bad for us. My mom has a severe shrimp allergy. The shrimp on the side helped to ensure no problems. Disney is usually really good about dealing with allergies. Does anyone have any experience with this and the new menu? Is the shrimp cooked in the same area as the rest of the meat? Thanks!

Umm...am I the only one who is really confused :confused3 ...the last i heard, they were getting rid of the potatoes and adding noodles and there was also a mix of brocolli and snow peas added...and i never heard anything about the sausage leaving! :sad1: i was looking forward to that...can anyone confirm what the menu is exactly, because the menu on allears says it was updated in Feb, maybe things have changed again

I ate at 'Ohana on May 7.

Starters are bread and mixed greens with honey-lime dressing. Hint: The bread goes VERY well with the dipping sauces they give you for the meats.

Appetizers are now honey-corriander wings, noodles with small chunks of pineapple, pork dumplings, and broccoli with snow peas. I liked the pork dumplings much better than the old wonton chips, and the broccoli with snow peas was much better than the stir-fry vegies. The veggies were always soggy, but the broccoli and peas were crisp and fresh. The wings were as good as always, and the noodles were okay but nothing to write home about.

Meats are now grilled shrimp, turkey, steak, and pork. As good as always

Sausage is gone, potatoes are gone.

Don't worry about the sausage - you're not missing much. It tasted okay, but it was always terribly chewy and very few people liked it.
